JOB SUMMARY: The Facilities Assistant covers custodial and minor maintenance tasks during the workday while contracted custodial staff is not available. This position is responsible for escorting contractors needing access to City facilities to ensure that they comply with City policy and protocols while observing and reporting on the contractor's progress toward completion of the contracted task. The position requires a person capable of providing custodial and minor maintenance services and a background in facility maintenance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Uses hand tools such as hammers, screw drivers, hand saws, etc. and other materials at job site as needed.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of existing city structures and facilities.
- Performs labor duties as required for completion of tasks assigned.
- May be needed to perform after hours duties in the event of emergencies.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- One (1) year of carpentry experience.
- One (1) year of painting experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:
- Vehicle Operator's license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City's insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.
REQUIRED SKILLS (Communication/Language; Mathematical; Computer; etc.):
- Some knowledge of construction materials, general carpentry, construction tools and equipment.
- Some knowledge of light demolition and removal obsolete structures.
- General knowledge of other General Trades.
- General knowledge of other General Trades.
- Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Some knowledge of general painting materials and techniques.
- Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to climb ladders and extension ladders.
- Basic carpentry skills.
OTHER DESIRABLES:
- Prior administrative experience.
- MHIC certified.
