The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities. We are responsible for everything from the building projects that change the face of campus to the flowers that beautify the grounds.

More about the Grounds Department:

Grounds is responsible for maintaining a safe and beautiful outdoor environment across the 938-acre UW campus. With a crew of more than forty full-time professionals, Grounds performs a myriad of activities including everything from lawn mowing and snow removal to maintaining concrete, asphalt, and signs. Grounds crews also maintain thousands of trees, shrubs, and perennials in addition to multi-seasonal and signature floral plantings. They also operate a dedicated greenhouse in order to raise the 30,000+ annuals and perennials needed for its many displays. Grounds is continually striving to improve its ecological footprint by actively engaging in sustainable lawn care and road salt reduction initiatives.

More about the Street Maintenance Technician III position:

This position will be part of the UW Madison Concrete/Asphalt Construction Crew within the Grounds Department. Come help us maintain all hard surfaces including sidewalks, curbs, steps. Also repair asphalt pads, paths and parking lots within our beautiful UW Madison campus! The position will also do landscaping, wall building and snow removal. Come join our team today!


Responsibilities:
Inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed.

  • 40% Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • 10% Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • 10% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 10% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
  • 10% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
  • 10% Landscaping and retaining wall building
  • 10% Perform snow removal using a variety of equipment

- Ability to work with motorized equipment and hand tools
- Class A. Driver's License with air brake & tanker endorsement

Preferred:
- Experience with position working predominately outdoors
- Snow removal experience


License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Required
CDL - Commercial Drivers License
Class A. Drivers License air brake & tanker endorsement

Class B CDL with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of hire


Work Schedule:

Monday- Friday, 6:00am- 2:30pm, 30 min unpaid break

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $25.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
The minimum hourly rate for this position is $25/hr, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

In the event you are required to work in or around animal facilities, you will be enrolled in the appropriate medical surveillance program.

Must be available for snow removal and overtime work as necessary. Physical work requiring lifting, bending, stooping and kneeling for extended periods of time.
