Job Summary:

The Center for Dairy Research (CDR) is seeking a grant administrative manager to support a growing innovative unit on the UW-Madison campus. Housed in a new, state-of-the-art facility in Babcock Hall, CDR is the largest dairy foods research program in the US. The Center has over 60 full-time staff, supports graduate and undergraduate research, and provides technical and training support services to hundreds of dairy producers and processers around the globe.

The grant administration manager will manage the incorporation, process design and management of all current and future funding awards to meet the requirements for process control and reporting purposes. This includes the coordination of an existing Dairy Business Innovation Alliance program, along with future funded programs. The position will be responsible for integrating the various funding awards received by the CDR into a coherent set of processes that will allow for the management and execution of each award's requirements (Cost Reviews, Scheduling, Performance Reports etc.). The position will also work with senior staff in the identification of, and application to, multiple funding agencies that are aligned with the mission of the CDR. The grant administration manager will provide critical support to CDR's operational grant and contract management including sponsored research projects, non-disclosure agreement processing, and service agreement administration.


Responsibilities:
Manages research administration activities from proposal preparation through closeout on behalf of a unit. Reviews and approves proposal submissions, contract negotiations, project setups, compliance, and/or financial reporting. Develops and oversees implementation of operations and strategic planning to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements within a school/college/division/unit. May manage a programmatic unit and/or personnel.

  • 20% Executes research administration operational policies and procedures including financial, administrative, staffing, and compliance on behalf of a unit
  • 25% Reviews and approves programmatic transactions spanning the life-cycle of sponsored projects to ensure compliance with institutional and/or sponsor policies and procedures
  • 10% Serves as a key resource to leadership and staff in the unit as well as a liaison to partners and stakeholders
  • 15% Executes activities related to proposal submission, contract negotiation, and/or award setup on behalf of a unit
  • 15% Executes activities related to financial compliance, audit, or reporting on behalf of a unit
  • 5% Provides training to faculty, staff, and/or administrators within the unit regarding policy, procedure, and/or execution of sponsored project administration
  • 10% May have authority to submit proposals, agreements, or invoices to a sponsor on behalf of the principal investigator or project director

Qualifications:

Required:
- Relevant experience writing and submitting complex grant proposals
- Experience following state and federal grant guidelines for process control, reporting, and program implementation
- Experience developing systems to work with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate grant applications for grant-making opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage competing tasks and responsibilities

Preferred:
- Knowledge of standard project management frameworks to work with internal teams to define scope and objectives, meet identified milestones, and close out projects
- Demonstrated knowledge of the dairy industry
- Experience with developing budgets for funding proposals
- Experience working with auditing agencies


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Typical working hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Salary:

Minimum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The minimum salary for this position is $85,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
