The Social Services Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the delivery, operations, and personnel in designated social services programs. This position assists in the assessment, modification, development, and coordination of relation programs to ensure proper delivery and service levels.

This particular vacancy will supervise the Children's Mental Health Assessment unit.


Minimum Qualifications

NEED TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Therapy, or related field
AND
  • Two years professional work in a Social Services agency which must include direct service or supervisor-level experience with community-based children's mental health assessment
AND
  • Licensed and qualified as an independent Mental Health Professional under Minn. Stat * 245.462 Subd. 18
AND
  • Valid driver's license

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supervising (hiring, disciplining, developing) professional level staff.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of Case Planning and Crisis/Safety Planning.
  • Experience in navigating medical insurance processes and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Hire and supervise the activities of professional staff in assigned program areas.
2. Consult, coach, and mentor staff in the performance of assigned duties.
3. Provide clinical supervision and ensure best practice and legal mandates are followed.
4. Develop, revise, implement, and provide oversight to policies and procedures, laws, rules and regulations and ensure alignment with best practice and legal mandates.
5. Develop, implement, and supervise innovative and effective programs and maintain excellence in service.
6. Evaluate and assess program budget needs, determine and collect data needed, and prioritize requests. Generate program and activity reports, statistics, and program evaluations as needed.
7. Inform, present, and promote agency programs and services with various community groups, agencies, or community organizations, and cross system initiatives.
8. Demonstrates a commitment to support cultural diversity County wide, actively supports the County's inclusion, diversity and equity initiatives, and works to address the needs of diverse and underserved communities.
9. Attend, conduct, and participate in unit, department, management, and team meetings.
10. Address problems and complaints and take action to resolve.
11. Work as part of an interdisciplinary supervisory team to implement and integrate programs and services.
12. With the Deputy Director and peer supervisors, establish and actuate program philosophy, goals, and objectives.
13. Provide on-call clinical supervision, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment

  • Knowledge of Children's Mental Health Service Delivery System, services, and resources.
  • Knowledge of eligibility and procedures of internal Dakota County programs that support youth with mental health issues- SMRT, TEFRA, MN Choices Assessments.
  • Knowledge of human development, family dynamics, family systems theory, and cultural competency.
  • Knowledge of community resources and funding sources.
  • Knowledge of mental health clinical diagnoses, medications, and basic medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of social service case work and family dynamics.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to social service programs.
  • Knowledge of social services organization, functions, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of indicators of mental health, chemical health, abuse, and child development.
  • Knowledge of computer software and information systems.
  • Knowledge of requirements of clinical supervision.
  • Ability to hire, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to problem solve and respond to crisis situations.
  • Ability to promote and support agency staff in the performance of their job functions.
  • Interviewing, negotiation, and listening skills.
  • Data collection and analysis skills.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and respect for the diversity of customers, co-workers, and supervisors, including individuals with a disability or whose first language may be other than English.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a County office building, in community settings and via telework. Some travel is required. Lifting requirement of up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Some positions may be exposed to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and poor ventilation. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, printer, telephone, cell phone, calculator, audio/visual equipment, and copy and fax machines. Some on-call hours are required of this position.
