The Elrod Lab at the Aging & Cardiovascular Discovery Center at Temple University is hiring a highly motivated staff researcher as its Physiology Core Coordinator. The Center features a world-class group of investigators with vast expertise in cardiovascular science. This position will support and manage the center's animal physiology and surgical core and work closely with PIs, surgeons, trainees, and staff to facilitate small and large animal measurements of physiology and surgical models of disease. Reports directly to the Center Director and works closely with center staff.

The Core Coordinator will be required to work full-time, in-house, (40 hrs/week) and is responsible for independently managing the small animal surgical/phenotyping core, including the day-to-day activities of all animal-related procedures that support all lab research projects. Responsibilities include:

• Provides complex technical assistance to the principal investigators and trainees in support of all animal studies
• Serves as an authoritative source on animal welfare practices, ULAR documentation, and IACUC protocols and other compliance committees
• Establishes priorities, provides training and feedback, and ensures all surgery related projects are completed in a timely fashion
• Tracks drug administration, establishes laboratory policies and procedures in accordance with research protocols
• Ensures laboratory staff adheres to all policies and procedures within the laboratory
• Oversees all contractual and collaborative work requiring animal surgeries
• Works on complex research projects; selects an appropriate course of action that requires demonstrated ability to make independent judgements and typically involves change or innovation in existing procedures or techniques
• Works closely with laboratory PI and reports on all vivarium and surgical cores issues on a daily-weekly basis
• Maintenance of all ULAR records, establishment of experimental cohorts
• Maintains surgical records and tracks study endpoints, acquires and analyzes data and graphs results, hands-on support of procedures and studies, management of surgical schedules and equipment

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience:
B.S. or B.A in biological sciences or related field and at least four years of directly related research experience. Individuals with prior experience with murine models and surgical models will be given a priority. Must be a self-motivated, hard-working, team-oriented individual with a strong work ethic and excellent communication and organizational skills.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Experience working with rodents.
*Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency with MS Office suite or similar spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation software. *Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of students, staff, faculty, and administration.
*Demonstrated organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and be detail oriented in a high-volume priority driven environment.
*Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills.
*Requires in-depth knowledge of animal surgical practices and how to navigate ULAR and IACUC protocols and regulations.
