Job Details

Provide accurate radiation treatments to patients according to physician prescription as outlined in electronic medical record. Be proficient in operation of all departmental equipment and in the documentation of patient's daily statistical and billing information.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:
  • Warm up machines and log parameters daily. Perform AM quality assurance check daily, reporting unusual readings to physicists, engineers, senior personnel, withholding treatment until problems are solved.
  • Check chart for prescription with MD"s signature, signed consent form approved physics check and calculations that correlate with approved treatment plan.
  • Pre- screen all patients prior to arrival for Covid or any other unusual symptoms.
  • Assist in explanation of procedures and means of communication to patients and work out patient's daily appointment schedule.
  • Reinforce advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and their care.
  • Prepare room and equipment daily for each patient regarding immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, devices such as wedges, beam shaping etc. as per patient prescription.
  • Transfer patient safely to treatment couch.
  • Position patient according to prescription using, where applicable, any device needed to ensure accurate daily treatment.
  • Operate and deliver on a daily basis, the prescribed plan course of therapy with minimal supervision.
  • Check daily treatment record for special instructions or procedural changes.eg. schedule conedown appointments alerting appropriate personnel.
  • Attends to needs of patient under physician instruction.
  • Maintain accurate treatment records of daily tumor dose, accurate log and appointment schedule. Image fields as requested by physician. Take photos of setups when applicable. Document and initial field changes as per physician.
  • Maintain visible and audible communication with the patient during treatment.
  • Maintain patient marking and tattoo when necessary.
  • Report unusual reactions and events, withholding treatment until clarified by physician.
  • Perform simulation when in scheduled conformity with simulation policy and physicians instruction.
  • Maintain daily appointment schedule, ensuring efficient patient flow. Notify appropriate personnel for transportation arrangements.
  • Maintain and deliver timely and accurate treatment statistics and census.
  • Maintain daily patient billing information. All billing should be checked in Mosaiq on a daily basis reflecting all changes made.
  • Perform ancillary job related duties as required.
  • Continuously conform to policies in all aspects of the department.
  • Notify appropriate person when equipment is in need of repair or when supplies run low.
  • Notify dosimetry of due dates for plans, cutouts, bolus, etc.
  • Have treatment and simulation rooms neat and orderly, properly stocked and secured at the end of each workday.
  • Assure that patients are sent to clinic for an on treatment visit weekly as designated by physician. Be available for technical meetings as required by supervisor.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Certificate of completion from an approved radiation therapy program

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year clinical experience

Licensure/Certification/Registration Requirements:

  • Possess current ARRT license or be board eligible.
