Properly handles radiopharmaceuticals used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; completes all diagnostic studies with optimal information; accurately completes contamination surveys and decontamination procedures; properly completes all Required Departmental and NRC forms. Performs studies according to Departmental procedures to achieve or produce optimal results. Promotes a cooperative and professional atmosphere with emphasis on patient care. Serves patients of all ages.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Conscientiously follows all radiation protection practices in patient shielding, self-shielding, radiation monitoring, and is aware of radiation protection of others. Reports any unsafe condition.
  • Consistently demonstrates ability to assist Authorized Users in proper dispensing of correct therapeutic dose and correctly completes all appropriate paperwork.
  • Documents appropriate information in patients' charts.
  • Ensures the procedure and related supplies are billed correctly.
  • Examines requisition for appropriate orders, exam date, indication for exam. Reprints corrected requisition.
  • Performs daily Quality Assurance and temperature documentation.
  • Prepares Gamma Camera and computer as described by established Departmental procedures or as dictated by extenuating circumstances.
  • Prepares and administers correct amount of radiopharmaceutical, using aseptic techniques as outlined in the Infection Control manual. Able to start and maintain IV lines.
  • Processes images as soon as possible during or after procedure.
  • Demonstrates competency with all camera systems and PACS /IMPAX including proper acquisition, archiving, document scanning, verification, ATD, error correction; and HIS/EMR, RIS/QDOC, Optilty, and the network system.
  • Presents high quality images to Radiologists and Cardiologists
  • Is able to consistently determine and present high quality images to Radiologists and Cardiologists.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent: General Studies

Graduate of Radiologic Program or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Program

Certifications - Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) - Within 60 days of hire or transfer; American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); or Nuclear Medicine Technician - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Regarding BLS certification: The department you are applying to may require BLS certification sooner than 60 days post transfer/hire. The hiring manager will discuss this with you if it is applicable.

Preferred:

Education - Associates: Related Field
Experience - 1+ years of Clinical Experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist

**Policy Number: MIS-7040-115 - Caregivers must be BLS certified upon employment or within their 90-day probation period.

Physical Requirements: Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
