Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist proficiently scrubs on a variety of surgical cases and maintain asepsis. This individual also assists the circulating nurse with patient care and in sterile processing and process instruments when on call.

Accountabilities/Duties:

• Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures. Ability to scrub surgical cases.
  
  
  
  • Creates and maintains a sterile field
  • Assists the surgeon during surgical procedures.
  • Technically competent to operate basic instruments and equipment used in surgery.
  • Actively participates in "time out"
  
  
• Collaborates with other members of the surgical team
  
  
  
  • Helps set up for cases
  • Assists with turnover of OR rooms
  • Assists with circulating
  
  
• Familiar with all equipment used in the operating room.
• Assist with turnover of OR rooms
• Restocks ORs and sterile core.
• Pulls cases using preference cards.
• Performs routine cleaning daily, weekly and monthly. Checks outdates
• Understands sterilization principles and practices including documentation and testing of sterilizers. Able to complete Central Supply technician functions
• Decontaminates instruments after use
• Assists with assembling instrument sets in preparation for sterilization
• Assists with running of daily sterilization monitors to include documentation
• Able to run Central Supply instrument processing function in absence of Central Supply technician.
• Assists with GI endoscopy

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology
• BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Surgical Technician Certification
