Job Title: Certified Addiction Counselors

Location: Washington, DC 20001

Duration: +8 Months to Long Term

Shift: Mon-Fri, 1st shift

Pay: $35-40/hr

Job Description:

  • The client is requesting Substance Use Disorder Counselors (SUDC) who will serve as the primary assessment and treatment workers along with medical and behavioral health staff; provide coordination and case management services; and provide staff training on substance use disorders and naloxone usage.
  • These individuals must be credentialed through the Dc Department of Health as Certified Addiction Counselors I or II (CACI or CACII).


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct clinical services, drug and alcohol assessments, education and treatment services, documenting history, triage, course of treatment and crisis intervention.
  • Conducts youth assessments utilizing the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN) assessment and other standardized assessment tools identified as best practice within the field.
  • Develops and implements linkage planning to ensure continuity of care for all youth in need of ongoing substance abuse treatment in the community setting.
  • Prepares comprehensive individual treatment plans, case reviews and discharge summaries. Maintains accurate treatment records and documents in accordance with applicable standards within the electronic health record.
  • Facilitates individual and group educational and counseling sessions on substance abuse with youth and family members.
  • Participates in weekly case reviews, case consultations, staff meetings, and program meetings to communicate observations, recommendations, and treatment progress..
  • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality of information and documents obtained through counseling sessions and outside agencies.
  • Provides training support and consultation to Client and private provider staff on substance abuse issues as needed. Participates in the development and facilitation of new-hire and in-service training through the Client Training Division.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Requirement:

  • Knowledge of adolescent substance abuse issues and problems and co-occurring disorders with youth involved in the juvenile justice system.

    Knowledge of Substance Abuse Counseling or in providing related treatment services to an adolescent population is strongly preferred.

    Certified as an Addition Counselor (CAC) and licensed to practice in the District of Columbia

    Mastery knowledge of applying best practices in treating dually diagnosed adolescents with substance abuse and mental health problems in a secure facility setting.

    Mastery knowledge of best practices in substance abuse education and treatment techniques.

    Expert knowledge of individual and group processes and techniques.

    Knowledge of self-help groups, cognitive behavior therapy and the dynamics of a therapeutic community.

    Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
