THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections is currently seeking an Institutional Parole Assistant to join the team at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will manage inmates in the parole release process, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and Pennsylvania Parole Board policies. Your duties will include interviewing inmates to assess their home plan requirements, monitoring drug screening results, evaluating home plan investigations, and tracking changes in status. In addition, you will prepare release orders, letters, memos, and status reports and run criminal histories for any needed cases on the monthly docket. You will also offer comprehensive clerical support, including typing memos, letters, forms, and other documents. Strong organizational skills are essential for managing incoming mail, including date-stamping, sorting, and distributing inmate request slips, as well as preparing outgoing mail.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience as a Clerical Assistant 2 in the Department of Corrections or Probation and Parole Board (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
