Position Title:Supervisor Biomed Department:BioMed Job Description:

Supervises preventive maintenance inspection completion and corrective work activities of Biomedical Equipment Technicians. Responds to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and perform repair on clinical medical equipment; performs planned maintenance (PM) on clinical medical equipment. Drives customer satisfaction through Service Excellence. Interfaces with customer department staff and management, represents interests of other departments as necessary, represent OUM internally and externally.

  • In addition to supervising staff, performs job duties as a Biomed Equipment Technician.
  • Reviews preventative maintenance work orders and strategize with team to complete workload on a daily basis; prioritize repairs based on service line acuity and drive completion on first-in/first-out basis.
  • Focus on continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate complex clinical medical equipment systems and device issues, system integration issues, clinical network connectivity, high-end equipment maintenance and repair; implement appropriate repairs, perform PM and safety/environmental inspections.
  • Support PM procedures; contributes to training procedures and quick reference documents; evaluates service requirements and histories to contribute to Alternate Equipment Maintenance (AEM) plans.
  • Lead others regarding appropriate policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Establish and engage in proactive daily status updates with customers, to ensure resolution and proper follow-up, leading to strong interdepartmental relations and satisfaction.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with teammates and colleagues.
  • Implement facility business goals/objectives.
  • Attend meetings to facilitate expansion and support of new equipment, systems, or integrations, while optimizing resources.
  • Lead, instruct, and assist technicians on repairs/resolutions. Delegate tasks and perform administrative duties, including managing risk.
  • Mentor team members to improve overall team performance through sharing best practices and guidance to achieve department goals. Develops team to accomplish results through training, development, performance management and recognition.
  • Document all repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule.
  • Ensure proper care of spares, tools, and test equipment, and ensure calibration.
  • Manage approved parts inventory.
  • Assists with managing vendor's service delivery processes.
  • Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.
  • Assist leadership on ensuring all regulatory requirements are met for The Joint Commission, State Department of Health and Human Services, Occupational Health and Safety, and all other applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, CAP, etc.).
  • Assist leadership on ensuring department compliance with the Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.
  • Complete all planned Quality and Compliance training within the defined deadlines.
  • Assist with identifying and reporting customer quality or compliance concerns immediately to the Quality Organization.
  • Ensure all work orders, vendor service reports, time and expense reports, PM activities, purchase orders, and other duties are documented in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure all test equipment is tracked and 100% calibrated on time.

General Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate's Degree Required.

Experience: 3-5 years of biomed and electronic or mechanical equipment maintenance experience required. Experience must include 1 to 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience.

Licensure/Certification/Registration Required: None required. Certified Biomedical Electronics Technician preferred (CBET).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Advanced experience interpreting electrical, electronic, and hydraulic schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to perform effective and efficient repair and planned maintenance on clinical medical equipment.
  • Deep knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, mechanics, fluid dynamics, and heating systems.
  • Moderate chemistry and radiation generation and safety knowledge.
  • Experience in a medical setting.
  • Familiarity with TJC Elements of Performance and mandatory compliance requirements
  • Ability to multitask, strategize, and prioritize
  • Ability to analyze metrics and reports.
  • Able to think creatively and implement solutions/solve problems, even when unfamiliar with the task at hand.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and lead others.
