Job Summary:

The Community Development Extension Educator serves the people and communities of Wisconsin by addressing local, statewide, and national issues, improving lives through research-based education, fostering partnerships and action, and facilitating positive impacts that support: thriving individuals and families; effective organizations; healthy communities; and strong economies.

This Community Development Extension Educator position will serve Menominee County/Nation, WI. This position will design, implement, and evaluate programming and services aligned with community needs to strengthen access and participation. This position will work with Tribal and local government, and other community-serving organizations on programing such as:

- Providing strategic planning and facilitating processes that help community members, organizations, and coalitions develop informed responses that address local issues of concern, such as capacity building, leadership and organizational development, and coordination of local efforts related to food sovereignty and food system development
- Building local capacity in Food Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development (FEED) by engaging Extension specialists and partners in providing training on a range of food business and supply chain development topics, such as crop production, food preservation, food safety and marketing
- Supporting/facilitating other organizational and leadership development programming, such as Tribes Lead!, a tribal-focused leadership skills program built on Indigenous teachings and informed by tribal communities.

This position will also play a role in supporting statewide resource and network development that advances indigenous food sovereignty, which focuses on building the capacity to grow, process, and access culturally significant foods in traditional and sustainable ways.

As part of the position's county-based work, the Community Development Extension Educator connects Menominee County and its communities to other Community Development and Extension resources and supports priority local initiatives through the facilitation of group and community participation processes and by engaging other colleagues and expertise from the Extension Community Development Institute as appropriate.


Responsibilities:
Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.

  • 20% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 10% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 20% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 10% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 15% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 5% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 20% Provides strategic planning and facilitates processes that help community members, organizations, and coalitions develop informed responses that address local issues of concern.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Work experience relevant to the programmatic responsibilities of the position;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology;
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with county and Tribal agencies, community-based services, and other organizations to address holistic needs;
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments

Preferred:
- Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work;
- Demonstrated skill in interpreting, utilizing, and applying evidence-based information and research findings;
- Demonstrated success in developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs for diverse audiences utilizing a variety of educational techniques, methods, and models;
- Demonstrated experience developing effective partnerships or coalitions with community partners and local governments.
- Understanding of and experience working with Native Nations communities, especially Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin.
- An individual who is recognized as a partner by tribal communities of Wisconsin or will be able to quickly develop relationships with the twelve American Indian Nations of Wisconsin, especially Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin.
