Now Offering a $25,000 Sign On MedStar Health is currently seeking an Echocardiography Technologist II - Lead Tech to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. This position combines technical echocardiography expertise with leadership and a commitment to enhancing team skills, efficiency, and ensuring high standards are maintained. As an Echocardiography Technologist II, you will ensure smooth functioning of the Echocardiography lab and oversee patient flow, lab operations, and the execution of specialized tests. You will supervise and mentor Echocardiography Technologists and aid in developing and implementing lab protocols to serve as a key educational resource within the team. Primary Duties: * Oversees and provides guidance to Echocardiography Technologist I and Non-Invasive Technologists, including input on performance evaluations and necessary training. Acts as a resource for Echocardiography Technologists, teaching and monitoring students, and visiting physicians in the use of equipment and procedures. * Obtains pertinent clinical information from the patient, medical chart, and/or physician. Completes all related procedures prior to performance of the test. Assists with the planning and timely scheduling of all cardiology tests. Clarifies testing request in ambiguous situations. Communicates information about specific test(s) to the patient and family explaining procedure prior to testing. * Performs echocardiography tests on patients, ensuring high-quality diagnostic outcomes. Manages the flow of patients through the lab, organizes daily assignments for Technologists and orderlies, and prepares work schedules to ensure adequate coverage. Monitors work activities to guarantee testing is performed accurately and in a timely manner. * Consistently performs stress echo procedures including echo imaging and Doppler as per department protocol. Accurately performs EKG and blood pressure determination during procedure following department protocols. * Assists in monitoring patient condition and safety during procedure identifying and documenting cardiac abnormalities related to patient symptoms and/or diagnosis. Immediately notifies the interpreting/performing cardiologist of any serious abnormalities identified during the procedure. Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred * Completion of a Registered Echocardiography program with coursework in anatomy and physiology * 3 years of echocardiography practice experience in all aspects of echocardiogram/doppler examinations; Arrhythmia analysis experience and demonstrated experience of echocardiogram and doppler examinations preferred * Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) registry-eligible in Cardiovascular Technology from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) OR Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) board registry certified, OR equivalent certifications recognized by reputable international cardiology organizations * Maintenance of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits meeting IAC-Echo accreditation standards * Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - includes BLS and NRP for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 days required |
