Job Summary:

About the Position:
This position is a part of our Physical Plant: Campus Services department within the Facilities Planning and Management Division at UW-Madison. As the Facilities Technician I in Campus Services, you will be involved in a large number of duties behind the scenes on campus. You will be involved in the relocation of departmental equipment and furniture from one campus building to another as requested by customers and assist Trades Workers with campus renovations. This position will also transport lifts from our inventory to designated campus buildings so that Trades Workers may utilize them for repairs and maintenance. This Facilities Technician position will also assist Campus Services in providing support set up of Campus Events, including the annual Graduation Ceremonies. This position will also utilize bucket trucks and boom lifts to perform window washing of all campus windows inside and out at heights of up to 160 feet with proper safety gear. Campus Services will also utilize lifts and ladders to reach heights as high as 60 feet to replace lightbulbs in auditoriums, atriums and gymnasiums.

About the Campus Services Department (within the Physical Plant):
Campus Services is a multifaceted department which provides a myriad of services to the campus. Truck Services delivers approximately 300 tradesmen, along with their tools and equipment, per week to job sites all across campus. Campus Mail sorts and delivers over 14,000 pieces of interdepartmental mail per week, along with the delivery of U.S. Postal mail to 37 buildings daily.

Campus Services also has a team of Facility Repair Workers who perform functions such as departmental moves of furniture and equipment, window washing, and construction clean-up. In addition to playing an important role in the setup and tear down for UW commencements and other large-scale events, they also provide a table and chair rental and delivery service for numerous smaller campus events. As a flexible and efficient labor force, they also provide support to various trade shops.

The Division of Facilities Planning& Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in the university's education, research, and outreach activities. Responsibilities:
Assists with facility and equipment inspection, maintenance, and repairs to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, and meeting and event preparation as needed.

  • 35% Utilizes basic equipment to repair and maintain basic machinery, equipment, and facility property under close supervision to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • 5% Assists with routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • 5% Escalates and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 5% Assists with inventory and distribution of deliveries to appropriate entities under close supervision
  • 30% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
  • 10% Sets up and tears down equipment for institutional meetings and events
  • 5% Perform routine inspections of Campus Equipment
  • 5% Assist with the relocation of Campus Equipment as needed

Work Schedule:

The expected schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, 30 minute unpaid meal break.

This position may occasionally be asked to work hours in excess of the normal work shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

The minimum hourly rate for this position is $20.50, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

This position may require working in or around animal facilities on campus. Those working in or around animal facilities are required to complete an annual safety training and personnel medical evaluation form to gain clearance. Some areas have additional requirements for entry, including a TB test with negative results and measles titer test. We will provide trainings that will address hazards as well as how to safely perform job duties by, for example, following signage and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

In the event you are required to work in or around animal facilities, you will be enrolled in the appropriate medical surveillance program.
