The Chaplain II is responsible for the direct ministry to patients, their families and caregivers via spiritual assessment and support, pastoral and sacramental care. The chaplain II is also responsible for initiating and implementing new methods of addressing patients' and family members' emotional and spiritual needs and for collaborating with other members of the health care team to communicate and coordinate care. As time permits, the chaplain also assists in educational programming within the department, hospital and wider community. Also responsible for additional leadership responsibilities as assigned and/or negotiated. The Chaplain II has the capability to function as a team leader in a service line or subsection of a large hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development & Leadership
  • Design, implement, and oversee ACPE-accredited CPE programs (including summer intensive and extended units).
  • Ensure compliance with ACPE accreditation standards and maintain program accreditation.
  • Develop a curriculum integrating clinical experience, theological reflection, and personal formation.
  • Recruit, select, and orient CPE students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Develops and manages an ACPE Accredited CPE program that emphasizes student-centered learning and mutual respect.
  • Coordinates admissions interviews and communicates admissions decisions.
  • Designs and implements curriculum for student-centered learning.
  • Provides coaching and supervision of students; assigns, reviews, and comments on students' written materials in a timely manner

Supervision & Education Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to CPE students.
  • Facilitate group seminars, individual supervision, and case study discussions.
  • Guide students in self-reflection, spiritual assessment, and pastoral care skills development.
  • Evaluate students' progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Evaluate students' personal and professional functioning, write evaluative reports in accordance with ACPE standards, and complete ACPE forms for students who complete their program.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Position requires Bachelor's Degree and a Masters of Divinity degree or its equivalent; also official recognition of ministry, such as ordination or certification in Religious Vocation that is acceptable to The Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), The Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or The Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) or comparable national chaplain certification agencies; also endorsement for institutional ministry by ecclesiastical authority; also four (4) units (1600 hours) of ACPE, Inc. accredited Clinical Pastoral Education; also board certification by APC, NACC or NAJC. Such certification requires graduate theological education, formal clinical pastoral education and demonstrated pastoral and conceptual competence. Advance Practice Certification (Such as APC's Palliative Care Certification or ACPE CEC Status) is strongly preferred and is required to assume a Team Leader Function as a Chaplain II.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of two (2) years as Board Certified Chaplain, two (2) years in a coded YNHHS chaplain position, and successful review for Chaplain II status.

LICENSURE

Board Certification from APC, NACC or NAJC. Advance Practice Certification (Such as APC's Palliative Care Certification or ACPE CEC Status) is strongly preferred and is required to assume a Team Leader Function as a Chaplain II.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Demonstrated excellence in spiritual care and leadership, noted initiative for new programs or protocols.
