SCOPE OF POSITION: Enforce and lead in the maintenance, upkeep, set up, organization, and cleanliness of campgrounds, facilities, supplies, and programs.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.
* Must have a valid Driver's License and The Salvation Army vehicle test.
* 2 seasons of summer camp experience or 1 year in equivalent work required.
* Prior janitorial and/or maintenance skills preferred.
* Prior housekeeping skills preferred.
* Must be at least 18 years of age.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
* Desire to work with youth, teens, and young adults.
* Ability to supervise and provide guidance to staff and campers.
* Ability to diffuse stressful situations with staff and campers.
* Be a Christian with a strong, demonstrative commitment to following Jesus Christ, and biblical principles, who is enthusiastic, energetic, and creative in spiritual leadership.
* Ability to operate a telephone.
* Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
* Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
* Ability to communicate well with others from diverse backgrounds, ages, and nationalities.
* Ability to work in groups.
* Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Lead and assist with groundskeeping and landscaping projects.
* Lead and assist with the set-up and teardown of program and meeting areas.
* Lead and assist in unloading, moving, and storing supplies as needed.
* Lead and assist in restocking of cabin and common bathrooms.
* Coordinate with program leads for set-up of specific day/ daily organized activities.
* Lead and assist in the trash removal from dining hall and kitchen to dumpster.
* Lead and assist with the cleaning and washing of trash cans as needed.
* Lead and assist in the removal of trash throughout entire site once daily.
* Lead and assist in the cleaning of guest staff lodging as needed.
* Work with permanent camp staff to set up guest lodging.
* Train Service Crew in building, maintaining, and properly extinguishing campfires.
* Train Service Crew in safety and procedures for campfire/ fire pits.
* Be a positive support member of the summer leadership team.
* Lead in the maintenance of Camp Kuratli by:
o Emptying all outdoor and indoor common trash receptacles.
o Maintain camp lawns and landscaping.
o Provide general building maintenance.
o Maintain trails.
o Other tasks as needed.

General Duties:
* Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible ways to, and with campers.
* Attend and participate in programs and spiritual activities as time permits.
* Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
* Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
* Enforce adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
* Ensure and provide supervision and physical/emotional safety for campers and staff.
* Ensure and assist in the cleanliness of public bathrooms and outside areas.
* Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
* May be required to help unload and put away food and supplies delivered from Sysco.
* May be required to serve as Break Day Supervisor at times during the season.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike and twist, on a continuous basis for up to 15-20 minutes or prolonged periods at a time.
* Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, such as files, file cabinets drawers, and reach overhead.
* Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and on occasion up to 50 lbs.
* Ability to lift, unload, and move food and supplies; lift dishes to their storage locations; use kitchen equipment safely, operate electrical equipment and mechanical equipment.
* Ability to operate landscaping equipment including but not limited to lawn mowers, weed trimmers, etc.
* Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
* There may be phone and in-person contact with others from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.
* May be required to work in all areas of camp including, but not limited to, the kitchen, dish room, laundry facility, and grounds.
* Working in a distinctively Christian environment
* Possible exposure to communicable diseases
* Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
* Work around dust, odor, high noise levels, and bodily fluids.

MISCELLANEOUS:
The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.

The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check. They must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
