Job Description

The RN Specialty Coordinator manages individualized, goal directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the delivery of quality care in the operating room and other areas of surgical services while meeting standards as set forth by regulatory compliance, and facility policies and procedures. This position maintains knowledge and skills required to perform as a professional registered nurse as well as those specific to surgical services and the operating room.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the RN Specialty Coordinator and department as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
  • Responsible for certain surgical specialties to maintain supplies/inventory; update surgeons' preference cards; inform vendors of cases; ensure supplies, implants and equipment is available for scheduled cases; serve as resource person for department on that surgical specialty; monitor cases scheduled ensuring rep notified, correct card used, & things needed are obtained before the day of surgery; and train or in-service new and existing team members.
  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Performs in as a resource in the absence of the charge nurse/leader.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other to address all identified needs.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient's responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, to ensure quality care.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
  • Demonstrates willingness to identify and/or assume activities relative to the developmental needs of the unit and the nursing department.
  • Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of unit and hospital.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new supplies, equipment, and/or instruments.
  • May have to fill in as charge when on call, during holidays, and/ or as needed.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing Required or
  • Associates Degree Nursing Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred

Minimum Work Experience

  • 1-3 years Nursing experience Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) within 90 Days Required
  • PALS Provider (PALS) American Heart Association within 6 Months Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Must be able to return to the hospital/facility within 30 minutes of a Callback.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills.
