The Certified Surgical First Assistant in a surgical operation is an advanced trained and certified individual who is able to participate in and actively assist the surgeon in completing the operation safely and expeditiously by helping to provide exposure, maintain hemostasis, and other technical functions. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: CSFA (Certified Surgical First Assist) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current CSFA certification Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred Experience REQUIRED: Experience as a Surgical Technologist or as a CSFA Experience PREFERRED: One or more years of experience as CSFA Experience at a Level 1 or 2 Trauma Center Experience in cardiac, robotics, vascular, orthopedics, neurosurgery, transplant surgery Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent and Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program, military training program, Master of Surgical Assisting Degree, or LPN Education/training PREFERRED: N/A Independent action(s) required: Assists in operations under the direction of the surgeon to make incisions and close surgical sites, manipulate or remove tissues, implant surgical devices or drains, suction the surgical site, place catheters, clamp or cauterize vessels or tissue, and apply dressings to surgical site. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with employee's specific Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements or in the best interest of the work unit. Takes call for routine or high acuity cases after the orientation period.
