DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs legal, risk management, and compliance related duties as assigned by General Counsel and/or the Executive Committee, including:
  • Review and negotiate construction contracts, business agreements, and any other contracts entered into by the Company
  • Provide advice to all departments on contracts, claims and other legal matters as requested by the General Counsel
  • Assist the General Counsel with any investigations or audits undertaken by the Legal Department
  • Proactively identify risk and implement risk mitigation plans and in doing so interpret, manage, and update various internal policies, templates, and requirements
  • Assist the General Counsel in ensuring the Company's compliance with government and corporate governance requirements
  • Monitor changes in applicable law and advise management regarding the implications of such changes in biannual legal report
  • Handle initial legal inquiries from within the company and under General Counsel approval issue legal opinions and summaries as necessary
  • Assist the General Counsel in managing outside counsel and work closely with Risk Management to resolve claims with third parties in litigation, mediation, and arbitration
  • Conduct and support training on legal and compliance related topics, including but not limited to risk mitigation and claims avoidance
  • Assist in drafting letters relating to contract administration, claim resolution, and other issues for project teams to send to subcontractors, clients and other third parties
  • Regularly audit subcontractors' agreements and COIs to confirm in compliance with McKenney's insurance and indemnification requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Three years of Legal, Compliance, Contract Negotiation, Insurance or Construction Litigation, and/or Risk Management Experience.
  • Member of the Georgia Bar (or ability to become an active member within 12 months of employment).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Construction law, Contract review, Insurance, and/or Risk Management experience

  • Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently
  • Confident in complex, demanding situations and negotiations
  • Must project a professional and polished image that inspires confidence and trust
  • Strong working knowledge of risk and legal principles, concepts, and techniques
  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge of the Company's business strategy
  • Able to deal with ambiguity and still make appropriate judgment calls
  • Able to anticipate manager and company needs and independently identify, initiate, and implement necessary actions
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with constant interruptions
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, analytical skills, attention-to-detail, and critical thinking skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk
  • No or very limited physical effort required
