The Supply Chain Director provides assurance of supply and strategic direction setting, driving material planning, inventory control, finished goods and component production scheduling within assigned business unit. The Supply Chain Director also provides strategic leadership to develop a world class supply chain organization focused on developing a high performing supply base through an effective supply base management culture and talent management.

Specific Job Functions Include:

  • Owns master scheduling material processing, supplier quality, warehousing, perpetual inventory accuracy and logistics of both inbound materials and outbound of finished goods.
  • Responsible for the compliance and safety for all warehousing and material handling equipment and personnel.
  • Responsible for Supply base delivery performance KPI's and supplier quality and recovery.
  • Works closely with strategic sourcing and procurement on supplier development, assurance of supply, and meeting annual and strategic cost saving objectives.
  • Data tracking for supplier development activities consistent with corporate guidelines for quality, performance, and growth objectives. Develops and assures compliance to corporate best business practices for all materials activities.
  • Facilitates discussions, documents well-conceived plans, provides thought leadership, builds consensus across the organization, and influences key decision makers.
  • Facilitates monthly Sales and Operations planning cycle to optimize inventory levels and improve networking capital requirements throughout the value chain.
  • Responsible for innovation and managing supplier VAVE and strategic cost management processes reducing the total cost of ownership supporting both business unit and enterprise annual cost improvement goals.
  • Establish and maintain inventory strategy that meets production requirements and achieves Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and is responsible for generating weekly inventory forecasts for improved cash management.
  • Responsible for implementing LEAN principles through process improvement.
  • Supports and drives Lean Six Sigma, Supplier Kaizens and ISO/QS9000/TS16949 initiatives, as well as continuous improvement activities at the business unit. Directs cost reduction efforts, identifying, analyzing, and implementing cost savings projects throughout the materials department.
  • Responsible for departmental budget and monitoring/reporting strategic goals and objectives at business unit
  • Ensures proper inventory levels for multiple warehouses with multiple distribution points; Maintains appropriate inventory level within budgetary guidelines; Works with Engineering, Sales, and Production to identify and consume any excess or obsolete inventory thorough model year or product changes.
  • Maintains an effective organization. This includes analyzing organizational needs and selecting and developing key subordinates to ensure effective motivation and utilization of associates.

Candidate Profile:

The candidate requires detailed knowledge of primary supply chain objectives and tools required to lead the materials team and other cross-functional groups to higher levels of performance. A solid understanding of purchasing systems, lean six sigma, supplier performance and technical manufacturing processes are essential to success. The candidate must excel in promoting and selling concepts at all levels of the organization, gaining buy-in from cross functional groups, establishing consensus, creating a team based environment, and driving long-term change.

Education & Experience:

  • BS degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering (MBA or MS in Supply Chain Management or equivalent degree strongly preferred)
  • Preferred 10 years of work experience in Distribution or Supply Chain Management with focus on timely accurate materials delivery system, preferably in a Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred 5 years of management/leadership/team building experience.
  • Required 5 years of experience in MRP/ERP systems such as JDE, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or others.
  • The individual will have demonstrated strong leadership impact while collaborating constructively with business and functional leaders to develop and implement breakthrough strategies and results.
  • Experience leading large scale change processes
  • Proven track record for developing high-trust relationships with key customers/partners
  • Extensive relevant, automotive, heavy industrial, supply chain excellence, manufacturing and program/project management experience in the manufacturing or relevant industry
  • Ability to quickly adapt to differing leadership styles and drive change within peer group and with customer business teams resulting in a higher level of consistency across teams and an elimination of non-value added activities, present complex technical and support issues at peer and executive levels (internal/external customers), identify risk, develop mitigation concepts and deploy actions to implement plans.
