Job Summary
The Milwaukee Public Schools Department of Recreation and Community Services is seeking a highly organized and detailed oriented individual with exemplary communication skills to join our Program Compliance Team. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to multi-task and manage multiple compliance related projects in order to support the recruitment and hiring of over 1,500 part-time staff on an annual basis.
Position Summary
- Provides excellent customer service by greeting and assisting visitors, addressing inquiries, and directing them to the appropriate resources or personnel.
- Assist in the recruitment and hiring process for part-time employees, including maintaining the job posting webpage, posting on external recruitment sites, and collecting hiring paperwork.
- Guides identified candidates through the application process and participates in the initial screening process as needed.
- Assists in the development of strategies to attract applicants for critical shortage areas and hard to fill positions.
- Collects and prepares recruitment data for reports to Milwaukee Recreation Administration.
- Represents Milwaukee Recreation at career fairs and community events, fostering collaboration between Milwaukee Recreation and key recruitment sources.
- Supports the transition of employee files to a digital filing system, ensuring accuracy, organization, and efficiency.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date employee records and organizes annual file purges.
- Manages incoming mail and other materials, ensuring proper routing and distribution.
- Provide general administrative support to the HR department, including filing, data entry, and preparing reports.
- Assists in other program compliance projects and initiatives as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Required
Reports to the Recreation Supervisor (Part-time Human Resources)
Job Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Able to meet the scheduling needs for this position.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Must possess a valid drivers license, good driving record and the MPS required level of personal auto liability insurance.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Experience
- An associate or bachelors degree in human resources, marketing, communications, or a related field is preferred. Current students pursuing a degree in one of these fields are encouraged to apply.
- Minimum of two (2) years of office experience.
- Experience with maintaining file systems.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of basic human resources principles and best practices, particularly in recruitment and compliance.
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations related to hiring and record-keeping.
- Knowledge of office software, including FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in hiring documentation and employee records.

Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- The position requires availability for shifts scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.
