The College of Creative Arts and Media Online Programs is currently accepting applications for a Marketing Strategist.

About the Opportunity

The Marketing Strategist for Online Programs in the College of Creative Arts and Media at West Virginia University oversees multiple concurrent marketing communications initiatives and student recruitment efforts. This role involves high-level writing, content creation, and the execution of innovative, impactful marketing campaigns for all online programs. Additionally, the strategist coordinates strategic recruitment events and an annual national conference. Responsibilities also include managing the development of printed materials, websites, social media, advertisements, online marketing, and recruitment materials. The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Online Programs.

What You'll Do



  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive marketing plan.
  • Execute integrated marketing communication activities and lead generation campaigns. Track, analyze and report performance of all marketing communications activities from paid media channels.
  • Responsible for creating marketing collateral across various channels, including print, digital, social media, and public relations.
  • Create visually appealing digital communications to engage a diverse audience (photos, video, social graphics).
  • Develop and implement promotional e-mail and internet marketing (paid search) campaigns.
  • Create and send direct mail. Research, select and acquire targeted lists for use during direct marketing activities.
  • Assist in development of marketing materials for internal and external communication activities to publicize and promote the program.
  • Establish benchmarks and track performance metrics and goals for each marketing initiative, focusing on lead generation, student matriculation and ROI for improvement and effectiveness of marketing tactics.
  • Prepare regular reports regarding the success of marketing efforts. These may include analytics, survey results, demographics, and other quantifiable and subjective measurements of effectiveness.
  • Make future marketing decisions to achieve lead generation goals based on performance data and previous return on marketing investment outcomes.
  • Execute regional strategic recruitment activities.
  • Select, manage, and evaluate vendors contracted to provide marketing, communications, and research services, ensuring consistency in outcome achievement. Develop and maintain vendor database; coordinate vendors utilized for various marketing activities.
  • Perform market research for new program development and marketing activities and identify marketing opportunities.
  • Adhere to annual marketing communications budget.
  • Manage existing partnerships, including national trade associations and local industry chapters.
  • Explore and propose additional partnership opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Integrated Marketing Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Journalism, Communications or a related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in public relations, integrated marketing communications or related field (advertising, marketing, communications).
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience planning and executing recruitment events.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All requirements must be met by the time of employment.

  • Demonstrated skills in marketing project management.
  • Ability to develop and execute multichannel communications and marketing plans
  • Understand effective market segmentation and consumer psychology/behavior with the demonstrated ability to design creative and successful strategic recruitment initiatives to achieve a positive return on marketing investment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in marketing goal development, tracking and analytics.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing both small and large events.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse population including superior speaking, writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required in managing workload, multiple projects, project management, requests, deadlines, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to function with a high degree of independent judgment, professionalism and personal initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel off-campus (including out-of-state) locations as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to keep abreast of changing technology as it impacts marketing and make necessary changes.
