Position Overview
International affairs seeks an inaugural Manager of Virtual Education/Collaborative Online Learning (VE/COIL) Initiatives. This position is part of the International Affairs administrative unit, reporting to the AVP for Student Support and Academic Services, with a dotted line to the Provost's Fellow for Curriculum Internationalization. This position also collaborates with Area Studies Centers and Study Abroad & Global Engagement on VE/COIL promotion, development and support activities, as well as the Center for Teaching Excellence, the Center for Online and Distance Learning, and Undergraduate Education. The successful candidate will be a skilled manager who can successfully design, implement, promote, assess, and sustain institutional support for VE/COIL at KU.

International Affairs at KU promotes and supports comprehensive internationalization at KU, and is comprised of a central, administrative office and four administrative units (Study Abroad & Global Engagement, International Support Services, International Short Programs, Applied English Center), five area studies centers (Center for East Asian Studies, Center for Global & International Studies, Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies, Center for Russian, Eastern European & Eurasian Studies, and the Kansas African Studies Center), and two Provost's fellows (Provost Fellow for International External Engagement, and Provost Fellow for Curriculum Internationalization).

Job Description
Outreach and Coordination (65%)
  • Conceptualize, design, and administer centralized support for VE / COIL activities at the University of Kansas, including coordinating outreach to and training for faculty.
  • Collaborate with partners, including the Provost's Fellow for Curriculum Internationalization, Study Abroad & Global Engagement, the Center for Teaching Excellence, the Center for Online and Distance Learning, Area Studies Centers, the Director of Internationalization & Partnerships, and Undergraduate Education in developing training and supports to advance VE / COIL activities at KU, and integrate it within the KU curriculum.
  • Facilitate and organize workshops, seminars, and events to introduce COIL and other global learning opportunities at KU. Develop and nurture partnerships throughout the University to facilitate attaining global learning objectives. Maintain communications on behalf of International Affairs with stakeholder groups across the University.
  • Develop best practices for VE / COIL as a component of comprehensive internationalization activities in partnership with others within International Affairs, including consideration of international partnership priorities.
  • Collaborate on the creation and maintenance of instructional resources for faculty.
  • Provide general support for COIL development, including collaborating on faculty/instructor matching for COIL activities, helping faculty identify appropriate technologies, assisting faculty to integrate VE / COIL into their learning outcomes, and working with faculty to develop appropriate assessments
  • Collaborate on the administration of competitive COIL development awards to faculty.
  • Collaborate with appropriate faculty and staff on drafting grant proposals and applying for virtual exchange funding.
  • Maintain awareness of national trends and best practices in internationalization of the curriculum, global learning, virtual exchange, and COIL; serve as a resource for other KU units engaged in global learning.
Assessment and Reporting (25%)
  • Maintain records on training programs and participation, COIL activities, and outcomes.
  • Develop rubrics and sample faculty assessments of student work that provide models to faculty new to COIL.
  • Design and conduct program assessments, analyze results, and adjust programs based on results.
  • Select or develop evaluation tools to assess COIL program impact consistent with professional standards in the field. Produce annual metrics and reports on COIL activities.
  • Determine, assess, and modify short-term and long-term objectives for the COIL program in alignment with Jayhawks Rising and comprehensive internationalization goals.
Other duties as assigned - (10%)

Required Qualifications
  1. Master's degree or Bachelor's degree and five years relevant experience.
  2. Experience leading trainings or developing training.
  3. Experience working with institutional and international partners.
  4. Work experience that required collaboration across teams to achieve goals in a complex organizational structure as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Experience with higher education assessment tools as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's degree and three years of experience with curriculum development, instructional technology, academic administration, faculty development, study abroad coordination, educational assessment, or international partnership development.
  2. Prior experience facilitating Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) or other types of global learning and engagement activities.
  3. Knowledge of intercultural pedagogical practices and experience facilitating intercultural learning.
