Business Architect
American Public University System

The Business Architect will play a critical role in bridging the gap between business strategy and technology execution. This individual will collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to define business capabilities, design end-to-end business solutions, and ensure alignment with corporate goals. The Business Architect will also be instrumental in driving enterprise-wide initiatives that optimize processes, enhance customer experiences, and deliver measurable business outcomes.

The Business Architect will report to the Vice President, Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Planning:



  • Partner with executive leadership to define and document the business's strategic objectives, value streams, and capabilities.
  • Translate business strategies into actionable architecture roadmaps and frameworks.


2. Capability Mapping and Development:



  • Analyze and map current business capabilities to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Design future-state business models and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture.


3. Solution Design:



  • Collaborate with technology teams to design solutions that meet business requirements while adhering to architectural principles.
  • Ensure proposed solutions align with organizational goals and deliver maximum value.


4. Stakeholder Collaboration:



  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders, providing insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Facilitate workshops and discussions to gather business requirements and validate solutions.


5. Governance and Compliance:



  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks to ensure business architecture aligns with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of implemented business solutions.


6. Continuous Improvement:



  • Drive innovation by identifying and championing opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.


Requirements:

Experience:



  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in business architecture, enterprise architecture, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of leading complex business transformation initiatives.
  • Proven track record directly managing business initiates with P&L responsibilities.
  • Experience working with outside of the US markets mainly Latam and Asia.
  • Experience working with low cost solutions and external vendors to help us reduce our IT costs


Skills and Competencies:



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and tactically.
  • Proficient in business modeling tools and frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, BPMN, ArchiMate).
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish


Technical Knowledge:



  • Familiarity with enterprise systems, cloud platforms, and emerging technologies.
  • Understanding of data analytics and its application in driving business decisions.
  • Experience implementing and managing BOT, RPA and dialer technologies.
  • Experience implementing and managing international payment gateways and online ecommerce environments.

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
