Job Description

The University of Missouri School of Medicine (MU SOM) invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor position in the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine. We seek driven, innovative candidates holding an advanced degree (PhD, MD/PhD, or DVM/PhD) with research programs focused on the intersection of vascular biology and kidney disease. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Cardiovascular Medicine, or Nephrology who are ready to contribute to and help lead discovery-driven and translational research initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in our diverse, collaborative lab group, with ongoing research in the fundamental and pathological mechanisms underlying vascular and kidney disease. Translational studies aimed at developing novel vascular-targeted therapies are central to our mission.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD, MD/PhD, or DVM/PhD

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Specialized research experience in vascular biology and kidney-related systems.
  • Research Excellence: Demonstrated success through peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, particularly in cardiovascular, nephrology, and anesthesiology-relevant contexts.
  • Extramural Funding Experience: Proven ability to secure external funding from agencies such as the NIH, AHA, or other relevant organizations. Prior success in grant applications is strongly desired.
  • Writing, Communication, and Mentorship: Candidates should exhibit excellent scientific writing, presentation, and mentoring skills with a history of successfully guiding graduate students or postdocs.
  • Multidisciplinary Expertise: Strong background in pharmacology, physiology, cardiovascular systems, and renal biology, with experience bridging these disciplines in innovative ways.
  • Collaborative Research Skills: Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary, collaborative environments involving clinical and basic science research teams.
  • Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in biochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, and mouse/tissue-based disease models is required.
  • Productivity Expectations: Secure extramural funding, including from NIH or similar agencies and publish high-impact research papers advancing the field. Mentor and develop future scientific leaders through effective guidance of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
