Position Overview
Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support mission-critical operations in a dynamic, agile environment. This role requires expertise in multiple programming languages, cloud-native environments, API development, ETL processes, and software engineering best practices. The selected candidate will work as part of a cross-functional Scrum team, developing innovative software solutions while leveraging Open Source and COTS tools for automation, integration, and testing.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, document, test, and debug application software and systems that incorporate logical and mathematical solutions.
- Monitor and administer collection management data feeds, maintaining relationships with upstream system technical contacts.
- Collaborate with systems analysts, engineers, and developers to define system requirements, performance specifications, and interface designs.
- Apply scientific analysis and mathematical modeling to software system design, predicting and measuring outcomes.
- Manage software system installations, ensuring hardware and software specifications are met.
- Conduct ongoing software development, maintenance, and enhancement activities to support mission objectives.
- Implement bug fixes and feature enhancements using DIA-standard development tools and processes (e.g., Node.js/TypeScript, Bash, Jira, Git).
- Develop scripts and automation processes leveraging Open Source and COTS tools.
- Contribute to acceptance criteria development, software documentation, and integration activities within an agile framework.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 12+ years of experience, OR
- Master's degree with 10+ years of experience, OR
- PhD with 8+ years of experience.
- An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Security Clearance:
- Active TS/SCI clearance or SCI eligibility required with the ability to successfully pass a polygraph.
Technical Expertise:
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in C-based languages, PHP, Node.js/TypeScript, Java, JavaScript, Perl, or Python.
- Operating Systems & Scripting: Strong experience working with Linux (CentOS/RHEL or Debian/Ubuntu), Bash/Zsh scripting, and Docker virtualized environments.
- Database Experience: Hands-on experience with CRUD operations in PostgreSQL (or other RDBMS such as Oracle DB, MySQL), as well as supporting tools like PGAdmin and Liquibase.
- Backend & API Development:
- Expertise in RESTful API development, JSON/XML, and API frameworks such as Spring, Rails, or Express.
- Proficiency with Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript), CLI version control (GitHub, GitLab).
- Frontend/UI Development:
- Experience using modern UI frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
- Proficiency in RESTful API calls using JSON/XML, Webpack/Vite, and VS Code.
- Collaboration & Workstyle: Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Jenkins, Jira, and Confluence for DevOps and agile project management.
- Familiarity with document stores and search technologies such as Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash).
- Experience working in AWS cloud environments (e.g., EC2, S3).
- Strong understanding of network administration and security protocols across multiple domains.
- Background in Joint Intelligence Operations Command (JIOC) applications and intelligence data analysis.
- Prior experience with Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) or other Department of Defense (DoD) security domains is highly preferred.

Target Salary Range
$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
