Primary Purpose:

Leads the Electric and Fuel Procurement (E&FP) contract management and system support teams within the Settlements and Systems department. Responsible for commercial management of SDG&E's multibillion dollar, long-term energy contract portfolio and working with 3rd parties to develop new contracted energy resources. Ensures proper management of contracts, both third-party owned and utility-owned generation resources (including gas-fired, renewable, and energy storage), from contract execution to contract expiration. Supports E&FP's portfolio optimization, negotiation of amendments, and resolution of contract disputes. Ensures IT systems relied upon by E&FP maintain appropriate functionality in response to changing market conditions and supports overall business process and system enhancements.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Oversees and leads a team of contract administrators and system support personnel, including onsite vendor support, to ensure E&FP is effectively managing its multibillion dollar supply portfolio. Responsibilities include providing strategic guidance, implementing quality-control processes and improvements, and developing staff whose functions cover contract management, administration of contract terms and conditions, verification of invoices, vendor management and technical support for E&FP systems to comply with IT company standards and controls. Oversight activities will include verifying that all contract identified milestones are appropriately tracked and completed in accordance with specified terms and conditions.
  • Provides strategic support to Legal, E&FP and SDG&E Supply Management in the negotiation of contract revisions and amendments to minimize the potential for counterparty disputes to create workforce efficiencies. Manages resolution of contract disputes and implementation of contract amendments.
  • Develops strategic planning in collaboration with E&FP, IT and Settlements and Systems leadership teams for system business requirements and manages the development and implementation of associated business plans for capital-related projects.
  • Provides witness expertise and supports testimony for relevant regulatory and legal proceedings.
  • Manages E&FP's software and subscription budget, SOX and Audit requirements and contract data reporting ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements both internally and externally to state and federal regulatory agencies (e.g. CPUC, CEC and FERC).
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).


Hybrid Schedule:



  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.



Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical or financial-related major (e.g. Engineering, Finance, Accounting).
  • 10 years experience in Electric Operations, Procurement, Contract Management, Systems Development, Accounting or a closely related field.
  • 2 years Supervisory experience or high-level project management experience.
  • Strong skills in leadership, teambuilding and employee development, organizing, planning, controlling, coordinating, and delegating to effectively manage assignments and projects.
  • Strong communication skills verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with both internal personnel and external counterparties and vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements associate with internal systems and procedures.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and communicate openly with others.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of electric and fuel procurement operations, systems and contract management is desirable.
  • CPA, CMA, MBA and/or other professional certificates/advanced degrees.
