Key Duties and Responsibilities
Support a quality focused culture where everyone feels ownership of quality and acts accordingly. This role leads efforts to implement proactive quality execution to eliminate waste and increase yield, and efficiencies in various functional areas of the manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:


  1. Non-Conformance Management:
  2. Develop activities to prevent and detect defects (vs. reactive responses) during the manufacturing process. Identify improvement opportunities related to product & process quality.
  3. Track non-conforming products, sub-assemblies, materials, and lead Material Review Board (MRB) efforts to disposition from a customer perspective.
  4. Facilitate and support problem-solving efforts for manufacturing/ process non-conformances (NCRs) using quality tools such as 8D, Ishikawa, 5Why, 5S, FMEA, SPC, and DOE.
  5. Evaluate the impact of product, process, and equipment changes on product quality conformance.
  6. Participate in cross-functional team activities to implement solutions using the 8D methodology for customer complaints, issues, and escalations as needed.
  7. Process Control:
  8. The quality engineer will focus on quality requirements including the development of pFMEA, and relevant quality control measures for risk reduction and include them in the Manufacturing Quality Control Plans and Inspection Protocols.
  9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, implement/ monitor Process Control Plans, Process Capability Analysis, Control Charts, and associated improvements.
  10. Drive and facilitate process capability studies and gage repeatability and reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies.
  11. Support data analysis as needed for continuous improvement activities.
  12. Manufacturing Process Audit:
  13. Perform manufacturing process audits for conformance to control plans, work instructions accuracy, and customer requirements including form, fit, function, and reliability criteria.
  14. Work with process owners to close gaps identified in manufacturing process audits.
  15. Validate the implementation & practice of process improvement actions outlined as part of internal and external 8Ds, corrective action plans.
  16. Maintain Quality Metrics and drive continuous improvement to achieve quality goals.



Education, Experience, and Skills Required
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Must Haves:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Material Science, or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline required, Master's degree or specialization in Quality Management Systems preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years (Bachelor's) or 3 years (Master's) of combined work experience in Quality Engineering and Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong data collection and analysis skills; understanding of statistics and control charts.
  • Structured problem-solving skills to drive to root cause and a solid understanding of quality tools, such as 8D, Ishikawa, 5Why, 5S, pFMEA, SPC, DOE, and Gage R&R.
  • Experience with statistical data analysis packages like JMP or Minitab.

  • Cross-functional team environment experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and work effectively without supervision.
  • Ability to travel 5-10% of the time as needed.
  • Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio.
  • Experience in developing and using Data Analytics dashboards.



Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Six Sigma Green Belt and/ or Certified Quality Engineer is a plus.
Please note that this position requires regular in-office attendance. The successful candidate is expected to be present in the office during standard working hours as determined by the company. In-office collaboration and participation in team meetings and other on-site activities are essential aspects of this role.
The pay range for this role in Carlsbad, CA is between $99,600 and $130,725. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
