The Ideal Candidate

Genesco, a leading retailer of footwear and apparel, is seeking a QA Lab Technician with Software Quality Assurance (SQA) responsibilities to support the maintenance of the POS lab and the testing and validation of retail technology solutions. This role is responsible for ensuring the proper upkeep of all POS lab equipment while conducting hands-on testing of point-of-sale (POS) systems and other retail applications in a controlled lab environment. The ideal candidate will ensure that all the hardware is updated and fully functional with the latest software versions, while also verifying that all software solutions meet performance, functionality, and security standards before deployment to stores and online platforms.

How You Will Make an Impact

QA Lab Operations Duties:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and connectivity issues within the QA lab.
  • Set up and maintain retail technology test environments, including registers, iPads, mobile devices, pinpads, and peripherals (scanners, receipt printers, etc.
    • Ensure all lab machines utilize the correct version and configs mimic Production.
  • Create and configure both physical and virtual machines (registers).
    • Ensure peripherals mimic production standards; replace faulty peripherals as needed.
  • Assist QA team with regular system upgrades/updates, patch deployment and rollbacks.
  • Test hardware and software compatibility across different store configurations.
  • Ensure proper documentation of lab test setups and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the deployment team to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
  • Order procurement.

Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Duties:

  • Execute, document and report status on automated test scripts and manual test cases.
  • Identify, log, and track software defects within Jira.
  • Simulate real-world retail scenarios to ensure software reliability and user-friendliness.
  • Assist the QA team in functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing activities.
  • Work closely with QA Engineers, developers, and the product team to troubleshoot issues and validate fixes.
  • Assist in performance and stress testing to ensure system stability during peak shopping periods.
  • Validate compliance and other security standards for payment processing.

Collaboration & Process Improvement:

  • Provide feedback on software usability, performance, and potential improvements from an operations perspective.
  • Work with Helpdesk to replicate in-store issues and test solutions before deployment.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining QA and lab documentation, test plans, and test cases.
  • Participate in Agile development cycles, including sprint planning and testing activities.


Experience and Skills You'll Need to Have

  • Education: Associate's or bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 2+ years in a QA testing or IT support role, preferably in a retail or e-commerce environment.
  • Experience working with POS systems, payment processing, or retail technology is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with QA methodologies, software testing tools, and defect tracking systems.
  • Basic knowledge of test automation tools is a plus.
  • Understanding of network configurations and hardware troubleshooting in a retail setting.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow test scripts and procedures.
  • Good communication skills to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail technology environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in a retail IT lab or store technology support role.
