Tectonic is actively seeking a full-time Senior Geotechnical/Tunnel Engineer with extensive experience in heavy civil construction inspection for underground structures such as tunnels, shafts, caverns, rock reinforcement, piles, caissons, grouting, and ground improvement.
This role is for a multi-year field assignment on a large-scale infrastructure project in the metro NYC geographic area throughout Westchester, the Bronx, and Manhattan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions include performing various geotechnical engineering services related to tunneling including geologic mapping; inspection of SOE rock reinforcement, rock mass grouting, probe hole drilling and permeability testing; oversight of geotechnical instrumentation including deformation and vibration monitoring; performance of subsurface investigations including test borings, test pits and geophysical methods; preparation of field reports including geologic maps, in-situ testing, probe hole and boring logs, etc. documenting daily construction activities; and attendance at progress meetings with client. Candidate will be responsible for scheduling and supervising additional field staff as necessary to accommodate construction schedule. The employee must be able to read, interpret, and perform technical review of blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, computer-generated reports, construction manuals, and project procedure guides to obtain a thorough knowledge of the applicable plans and specifications, and to confirm that the documents are sufficient. The employee will also perform complex calculations to document the acceptability of the completed construction and will prepare necessary reports and drawings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS


  • Valid New York State Professional Engineering or Professional Geologist license;
  • Minimum of 5 years of related geotechnical experience, with demonstrated experience in underground structures; (tunnels, shafts, caverns, rock reinforcement, piles and caissons, grouting, ground improvement, etc.);
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with effective oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with the client and contractor;
  • Diversified knowledge of technology, materials, equipment, design concepts and construction techniques;
  • Good computer skills, with basic functionality in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as design software programs;
  • Valid, clean driver's license and personal vehicle to travel to project sites as needed.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently required to assume a stationary position, handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job and communicate about same. The employee will regularly move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning themselves appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time, sometimes in hazardous weather conditions, such as rain, snow, or extreme heat. For some types of investigations and assessments, the employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 31 lbs. In accordance with the level of visual detail required for this position, close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required for this position. The employee may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee will also communicate with colleagues, supervisors and clients using the Company e-mail and telephone systems. This position requires the occasional operation of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time. The employee will regularly be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines. PAY RANGE
Tectonic's goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate's work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.
Pay Range: $112,000 - $150,000 per year
