PURPOSE
The Principal Product Development Engineer is a member of a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for continuing and new development of MEMS probe card technologies for semiconductor wafer test products. This team member is responsible for technical product configuration, design and solution proposal, as well as post-sales support such as test yield optimization and best practices development. The person must be customer focused to understand the customer's technical need in detail and will use this knowledge to help guide product development choices. This role will also develop an understanding of how our products fit in the competitive space and act as a technical resource in the development of product roadmaps. Additionally, the person in this position will help with technical feasibility review when customer requests are outside of current capabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead new product design and manufacturing process development / integration
- Collaborate with manufacturing team to build prototypes, alpha and beta products
- Define and drive internal characterization and reliability tests. Support product validation at customers
- Support manufacturing or field service on product issues
- Monitor metrics and milestones to chart progress against goals
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, or a related engineering field
- 5+ years of experience related to product engineering and development, in fields such as MEMS, wafer test, microfabrication, semiconductor processing high precision mechanical design.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in mechanical design using a modern 3D CAD package such as SolidWorks, CREO, or AutoCAD
- Proven experience in precision design, tolerancing and error budgets
- Strong knowledge of thermo-mechanical design principles, strength of materials, and material thermal properties
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for serviceability (DFS) best practices is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills through experimental design and data analysis
- Willingness to work hands on in the lab setting up experiments and collecting data
- Experience in the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE); quality and continuous improvement methodologies such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root-cause Analysis (RCA), and 8D structured problem-solving / corrective action methodologies
- Ability to analyze a problem and make recommendations to upper management
- Proficient in project management, having experience managing schedule, budget, and tracking action items
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer facing experience such as escalation support or product roadmap presentations is a plus
- Experience with data analysis programming tools such as Python and MATLAB is a plus
The pay range for this role in Livermore, CA is between $136,200 and $178,815. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
