About the College of Health and Human Sciences

The Department of Human Services and Counseling is housed within the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS). CHHS embraces inclusivity and an orientation to lifelong learning to prepare diverse students for interculturally competent practice, research, and leadership in their disciplines. Position Summary

The Department of Human Services and Counseling at MSU Denver is seeking an Internship Coordinator. The Coordinator is an experienced leader, mentor, and administrator who influences the continued development of the Department's undergraduate and graduate internship programs. This position develops and maintains internship opportunities through community partnership building, oversee that internship curriculum are aligns with accreditation standards, provides curricular advising to students during their programs and licensure support after graduation, and ensures a cohesive and coordinated internship program.

Responsibilities

Advising & Retention Support - 40%

  • Advise and support students in undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Human Services and Counseling regarding program progression, field placement, graduation requirements, and licensure processes. Undergraduate advising is done in partnership with the College of Health and Human Sciences' Advising Office.
  • Provide information regarding credentialing requirements through the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) and the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA).
  • Deliver strategic enrollment management and predictive analytics.
  • Support students through all phases of the exploration, application, and the internship process.
  • Support the development and implementation of technology to ensure systems and processes are efficient and accomplish program goals, organizational needs, and tracking needs.

Community & Agency Partnerships - 30%

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local agencies.
  • Conduct periodic and regularly scheduled site visits at approved internship sites to ensure alignment with the Council for Standards in Human Service Education (CSHSE), the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), and the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission (NASAC) standards.
  • Create, maintain, and update resources for students, internship supervisors and/or internship sites as needed.
  • Provide support to internship supervisors.
  • Provide information, support, and technical assistance to students to help orient them to the internship process and inform them of the requirements.
  • Problem-solve and facilitate conflict resolution as needed.
  • Lead development efforts to expand the field program as the department serves more students, including students in diverse geographic areas.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Department and other University offices, including other clinical internship educators.
  • Promote the reputation and visibility of the Department of Human Services and Counseling locally.
  • Support Department Advisory Board efforts to ensure academic programs meet current and emerging community needs.

Faculty & Department Support - 30%

  • Provide internship orientation to students each semester and/or as needed.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with internship faculty.
  • Work directly with the Clinical Director of the Graduate program.
  • Oversee assessment activities related to the internship program.
  • Design, lead, and manage data collection efforts and outcome measures that contribute to strategic decision making.
  • Maintain applicable internship manuals.
  • Uphold internship policies as needed.
  • Update field course syllabi and forms.
  • Serve on the Department Scholarship Committee to review student applications and develop opportunities that address students' financial needs.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Computer and technological proficiency with the ability to learn new systems, software, and tools
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of constituents effectively and with a high degree of professionalism
  • Evidence of strong time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to apply independent judgment with limited supervision and instruction
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team environment as well as independently
  • Demonstrated ability to address and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Behavioral Health, Addiction Counseling, or a related field
  • Experience using the SCT/Banner system or a comparable student information system
  • Minimum of one year experience working in a clinical setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years experience working in a clinical setting
  • Experience in higher education settings
  • Proven experience coordinating internship programs for students
  • Background in advising or supervising students or professionals
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards, Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) regulations, and DORA requirements
  • Experience collaborating with clinical supervisors
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build partnerships with local agencies
  • Experience in conducting agency site visits

  • Days of Week: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Evenings and Weekend Work: Flexibility to work occasional evenings for events and clinic
  • Schedule: This position is in person, on campus with some remote opportunities subject to supervisor approval, and the undergraduate and graduate programs' needs
  • Travel: Local travel up to 25% for site visits and professional development

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The anticipated hiring salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $55,000 - $67,000.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
