In September, Sonoco announced it is performing a strategic review of the Thermoforming Flexible Packaging (TFP) business unit. In order to support a newly formed global packaging company with annual revenues exceeding $1 billion, we are seeking a Area Controller to oversee the financial operations and ensuring the accuracy of the financial reporting within the designated geographic area.

This role involves managing accounting functions, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

What you'll be doing:

  • Oversee and manage the financial operations within the assigned area, including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective financial management.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and forecasts to provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support business operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage cash flow, financial planning, and risk management activities within the area.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.

This position is in our DeKalb, IL Facility

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with process improvement and change management initiatives.

Compensation:

The annual base salary range for this role is from $116,160 to $130,680, plus an annual target bonus of 7.5% of base salary.
