Job Description

Albemarle is hiring for a Quality & Construction Management Director in Charlotte, NC. This position will be hybrid. This candidate will lead the Albemarle's Quality and Construction Management team providing global inspection Candidate oversees the Albemarle Source Quality Surveillance (SQS) Inspectors, Albemarle Senior Project Inspectors, and vetted contract SQS shop & field inspectors which provides oversight and assure technical correctness on maintenance and capital projects from concept through start-up.

What you will do

Responsibilities:

  • Drives Albemarle's safety focus to promote a safe fabrication shop and site inspection culture.
  • Ensures safety is the paramount objective when planning and executing all construction activities.
  • Participates in HSSE reviews, permit audits, and housekeeping inspections.
  • Displays and champions the Albemarle Core Values on the project and maintenance team.
  • Develops, implements, and provides specialized support to establish and maintain a Quality Management System ensuring that the organization's project and maintenance teams maintain compliance with all Albemarle specifications, standards, and drawings as well as Industry codes & standards, and site-specific jurisdictional requirements.
  • Collaborates with project managers, engineers across all disciplines, and maintenance teams to develop, implement, and maintain a robust Quality & Construction Management Plans throughout the entire project cycle.
  • Incorporates Quality & Construction Management best practices throughout the life cycle of a capital project.
  • Implements programs to support long-term improvement in facilities, infrastructure, and project delivery in relation to Quality & Construction.
  • Leads project constructability reviews, as needed.
  • Drives project construction readiness reviews, as necessary, prior to construction execution.
  • Provides technical guidance for troubleshooting and problem solving when issues arise with Quality & Construction related activities during project engineering, construction, and start-up.
  • Effectively advises capital project management teams on applicable technology and innovation in the field of Quality & Construction.
  • Incorporates lessons learned from previous capital projects into the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.
  • Drives to establish equipment criticality rating along with Equipment Inspection Plans on critical equipment.
  • Ensures Request for Quotation (RFQ) and Purchase Orders include a Quality Inspection Plan (QIP) representing all the requirements detailed on the Equipment Data Sheet, and the proper level of source inspection meets the equipment criticality ranking.
  • Supports development of QA/QC process to ensure equipment procured meets technical requirements.
  • Provides and manages inspection support to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) generating inspection reports to document the test results.
  • Provides technical support establishing the supplier/vendor's equipment specific Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) including a schedule to raise visibility & awareness on fabrication progress.
  • Facilitate the Pre-Inspection Meeting (PIM) process, when applicable, as per the SQS level of inspection assigned.
  • Addresses and resolves Inspection report concerns identified with project and site maintenance team.
  • Develops and implements specific instructions for SQS inspectors, as needed.
  • Addresses and resolves Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) prior to owner acceptance.
  • Performs SQS shop inspections and audits, as needed, at the supplier/vendor's facility.
  • Provides capital project field Construction Management oversight, as needed.
  • Performs as the QA/QC oversight on capital projects especially during construction execution.
  • Supports PEER reviews for Quality & Construction Management, as needed, at each stage gate review of projects sized >$2.5 million.
  • Conducts project site construction execution assessments, as needed, identifying areas for improvement and providing recommendations to the project management team for implementation.
  • Aids on-site construction coordinators in overseeing construction efforts and assists with any troubleshooting or problem solving required to meet the design intent.
  • Assists contractors in the development and successful completion of project quality documents to include dossiers and Turnover Packages (TOPs).
  • Ensures all quality records are completed and transmitted in accordance with the project QA specifications.

What you bring

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of verifiable experience of capital project QA/QC processes in a petrochemical or similar industrial environment.
  • Minimum of five (5) years working as a QA/QC lead in a petrochemical or industrial manufacturing environment with progressive demonstration of experience on executing QA/QC activities as a coordinator to include shop and field inspections.
  • Strong leadership and intrapersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with senior level leadership within an organization.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to inspire and drive results through teamwork with all levels of the organization.
  • Detail oriented with high standards for accuracy and completeness.
  • Proven ability in problem solving and multi-tasking.
  • Experience with major EPC(CM) contractors and owner project teams.
  • Working knowledge of IPA and CII practices
  • Experienced working in a project stage-gate system environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the ability to read, understand, and modify or develop Inspection Test Plans for multiple types of equipment utilized in the chemical industry.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple activities with varied scope, schedule, priorities, and locations.
  • Experience working with engineered documents to include PFD's, P&ID's, Civil/Structural plans and details, Piping Isometrics, etc.
  • Experience in dimensional verification of fixed equipment as specified on the fabrication drawings.
  • Knowledge of the latest applicable codes, regulations, and best practices related to fabrication and construction, including but not limited to: ISO, API, ASME, NBIC, AWS, NACE, NFPA, PIP, GB codes, and NEC.
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Section IX on the review and approval of WPS, PQR, and WPQs.
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Section V on the review and acceptance of Non-Destructive Examinations to include VT, PT, UTT, PAUT, MT, and RT Interpretation.
  • Experience in the review of Material Test Reports (MTRs) and verification of materials against the MTRs.
  • Ability to witness and accept pneumatic, hydrostatic, sensitive leak, spark testing, etc. to the applicable codes and Albemarle specifications.
  • Excellent computer skills - Microsoft SharePoint Online, Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), TEAMS, SAP, Aconex, Adept, and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to travel globally to Albemarle sites and supplier/vendor fabrication shops. Travel may exceed 50% of time.
  • Preferred experience and/or certification in the following:
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector
    • API 570 Piping Inspector
    • NACE CIP Level I Coatings Inspector
    • Positive Materials Identification (PMI)
    • Fabrication of reactive metals (Titanium and Zirconium) and refractory metals (Tantalum and Niobium)
    • Fabrication of nonmetallic materials of construction to include FRP, Dual Laminates and Lined Piping
