Hourly wage for this position starts at $25.50 per hour up to $35.50 per hour depending on experience.

Responsibilities

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Operator position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operates mechanical and electrical equipment for the plant's wastewater pre-treatment system, including the Dissolved Air Floatation Tank (DAF), Rotoscreen, pit bull (paunch), pumps, valves, press, forklift and skid steer (Bobcat)
  • Applies basic knowledge of the wastewater pre-treatment process and equipment to perform all regular and non-routine wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance
  • Notifies Wastewater Operator and Department Manager of any bypasses, spills or process deviations
  • Performs all activities necessary to maintain structures, equipment, and grounds; including housekeeping of assigned department areas
  • Monitors pre-treatment equipment, starts and stops pumps, adjusts valves, and operates electric switches and valve controls as necessary to maintain flow of wastewater, paunch and grease within the pre-treatment system
  • As assigned, cleans paunch, grease and grit from the DAF building, basement floor and DAF exterior using tools such as high-pressure washers, water hoses, shovels and brushes
  • Performs all routine maintenance on equipment, such as lubrication, oil changes, and belt changes
  • Performs routine repair work, such as disassembly, repair, and installation of ball valves, switches, minor process instrumentation, and related equipment. Assists with installation of pumps and piping
  • Assists with confined space entry into department equipment (e.g. DAF tank); as an entrant or attendant
  • Performs all work in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations and in compliance with all departmental safety policies and procedures. This includes using appropriate safety devices and equipment
  • Must report to work on a regular and timely basis
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a safety sensitive position. This is an on-site position.



Qualifications

Qualified candidates for the Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Operator position should possess the following:

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the functions and operating principles of mechanical equipment such as filters, pumps, motors, mixers and other equipment used in the pretreatment process

  • Ability to analyze and diagnose problems and react promptly and efficiently to resolve problems in emergency situations

Physical requirements:

  • Frequent walking and standing

  • Frequent lifting up to 60 pounds

  • Frequent carrying up to 60 pounds

  • Frequent pushing and pulling up to 60 pounds

  • Frequent balancing, bending, handling, feeling, climbing, talking, smelling and twisting

  • Occasional reaching, kneeling and crawling

  • Vision, speech and hearing sufficient to perform essential tasks.
