What You'll Do

The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) engineer/tech will be responsible for developing high quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems. Design involves the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and labor-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and required design output deliverables. Design output deliverables include conduit/cable schedules, conduit/equipment plans, wiring/connection/schematic diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, various sections/elevations/detail drawings, calculations, instrument datasheets, and construction specifications.

I&C engineer/tech will apply technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the electrical engineering field with primarily an instrumentation/controls focus for process measurement and control. I&C engineer/tech will develop industrial control panel assembly drawings, control system network architecture diagrams, and control logic for both batch and continuous processes using conventional analog instrumentation, modern digital control systems, and programmable logic controller/human-machine interfaces (PLCs/HMIs). I&C engineer/tech will also develop process control system narratives, aid in the development of process software requirements, and provide input to Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

The I&C engineer/tech will provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of problems through the application of established engineering practices and national consensus codes and standards. Candidate must effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of a multi-discipline, integrated project team. The I&C engineer/tech will routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.

Minimum Job Requirements

CORE TECH:



  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2years of relevant experience
  • OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 1yearof relevant experience
  • OR a PhD
  • OR tenor more years of relevant education, training, and/or progressive experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting


CORE ENGINEERING:



  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering/science discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • OR a Master's degree in in an engineering/science discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA
  • OR a PhD in an engineering/science discipline with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA

    • There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript
    • Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire




In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2).

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 or more years of instrumentation and controls design engineering experience
  • A Professional Engineering License (PE) is preferred but not required
  • Knowledgeable in respective technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
  • Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on new and proposed revisions to technical operating procedures, design drawings, design requirements, and facility systems, structures, and components
  • Ability to perform technical evaluations of processes and provide well-written, technical feedback
  • Technical expertise and demonstrated knowledge of related engineering systems, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to I&C engineering such as NFPA 70, UL 508A, and ISA standards
  • Experience utilizing Rockwell Automation industrial automation software (RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a project team environment and communicate well with other disciplines, customers, and stakeholders
  • Ability to read, and/or interpret complex engineering drawings
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word
