SUMMARY

Assists in all phases of a project with primary emphasis on writing and editing manuscripts, including ancillaries and assessments. With supervision, coordinates with Design, Production, Digital Production, and other departments from manuscript stage to final product. May oversee work of and provide feedback to freelancers and/or vendor partners.

Provides constructive feedback when needed to colleagues and/or vendor partners. Prepares accurate status reports on a regular basis.

This position is a part-time, term of project opportunity for 9 months.

SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOB

The Editor knows the subject matter for his/her assigned area and uses that knowledge to develop competitive offerings. The Editor is knowledgeable about all of the "details" in the plan for the assigned project, including specs, writing guidelines, schedule constraints, etc. The Editor relies on guidance from his/her direct supervisor to ensure that the evolving product meets the objectives of the plan, its budget, and its schedule.

Supervisory responsibilities (direct and indirect)

Manages in-house and freelance staff on a limited basis to complete assigned projects.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Related work experience



  • Minimum 3 years experience in curriculum development or the development of instructional materials.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable regarding educational methodologies and instructional design.
  • 2+ years relevant editorial experience preferred.



Formal education or equivalent



  • A BA/BS in a related field required.



Skills



  • Proficient user of computers and software programs including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Exhibits good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understands the production process for print and digital instructional materials.
  • Demonstrates ability to write original content, and to edit and rewrite content generated by others, to meet standards of accuracy, style, grade level, and market need.
  • Able to create and deliver content in a format suitable for digital products.
  • Promotes sense of teamwork and works to reduce team barriers and conflicts.
  • Able to respond quickly in an environment of changing priorities. Must be able to set relevant priorities on a daily basis and meet deadlines.
  • Commands work habits that are highly productive, working efficiently to develop quality content.
  • Must be strategic and efficient in planning and executing to ensure consistent on-time delivery of product.
  • Must be able to utilize constructive feedback to refine skills and reduce mistakes.

  • Knows how to translate knowledge of math and math teaching into formats that meet customer needs.
  • Proactive in anticipating, evaluating, and solving for issues to avoid disruptions in workflow.
  • Displays self-confidence in actively participating in meetings and open forums.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • With supervision, write and edit manuscripts, including ancillaries and assessments.
  • Monitor appropriateness of text material as to reading level, content accuracy and currency, freedom of bias, and teachability.
  • Write and provide art specs for artists and photo-researchers. Participate in evaluation of sketches and choice of photos.
  • Oversee work of in-house editors, freelancers, and outside vendor partners.
  • Review content to ensure compliance with state standards and assessment specifications.
  • Ensure that product responds to customer needs.
