Administrative supervision is exercised over staff in the designated section of the department. Assist staff with identifying, analyzing, and appealing insurance denials. Monitor/review pre-billing edits. Review staff's work in progress for adherence to appropriate methods and procedures and completion of work in a timely manner. Instruct and advise staff on changes in policies, procedures, and work standards. Monitor staff's workload and productivity in order to meet the department's workload and productivity standards. Complete quarterly evaluations for all staff and maintain team communication with regular cadence.

Communicate with Department Chairs, Administrators, physicians and other departmental personnel to resolve operation problems and promote positive communications. Develop and analyze trending rejects and terminal denials reports to recommend organization process changes and/or corrective actions. Attend Division meetings with prepared reports for discussion of workflow, process improvements, and ways to contribute to denials reduction. Act as a liaison with clinical Health Science Center departments to improve overall efficiencies.

Ensure University Physicians is complying with all federal and state laws and billing and collections are being done appropriately. Work with other groups within UP to continually monitor changes in federal and state regulations that govern Physicians and hospital billings and collections and interpret their effect on business operations of UP. Develop, recommend and implement billing and collections policies/procedures that ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and that are consistent with University policies and procedures.

Develop, delegate, and monitor departments' goals, objectives and programs and ensure timely completions.

Assist management in interviewing, selecting, training, and counseling staff in the designated section of the Patient Accounts Department. Plan and assign work to staff in the designated section of Patient Accounts Department. Demonstrate to staff appropriate methods and procedures to complete work assignments.

Handle special projects as assigned.
Position is eligible for the University Physicians work from home program.

Shift

Shift Type: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Flexibility for Alternative Schedules: Yes

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Experience in government payer, managed care payer, healthcare billing, healthcare reimbursement, or claims processing/payment variance.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Experience in medical terminology and ICD-9 and/or ICD-10, CPT coding. Bachelor's Degree in Health Services Management, Finance, Business, Accounting, or health-related profession, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Additional Training: Certified Professional Coded (CPC) or similar coding certification is desired.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary range: $56,597 - $89,419
Grade: PAT-8A
