What is the opportunity?

The U.S. Strategy team at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is responsible for setting the long-term strategic direction for RBC U.S. The Strategy Director leads the strategic planning process for a few U.S. initiatives/LOBs. This colleague is responsible for stakeholder engagement, process management, and reporting to senior leadership. This colleague is also responsible for leading industry and competitive research and for mentoring junior team members. This colleague is a developing thought leader with the ability to turn vision into action, motivate others to achieve goals, and follow through on decisions.

What will you do?

  • Drive execution of the strategic planning process.

  • Lead enhancement to the strategic planning process ensuring alignment with financial and capital planning.

  • Support executives on their LOB strategy creation.

  • Organize and facilitate cross-LOB initiative design and execution.

  • Work with the business to identify and prioritize new initiatives to drive business strategy, financial return, and/or positive client impact while mitigating potential risks and control gaps.

  • Support a portfolio of strategic initiatives. Review and challenge progress on the initiatives. Facilitate executive decisioning and escalations on the initiatives.

  • Develop broad understanding of the banking industry and specialized understanding of a few areas.

  • Understand key metric impacting their divisions. Works with finance to provide a data-based approach to understand and improve business strategy and decisions.

  • Share lessons learned and best practices with others throughout the Bank when appropriate.

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across their division.

  • Oversee risk assessment (e.g., RiskID, RCSA, BCM) and audit of strategic planning process.

  • Mentor junior team members.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in financial services/consulting/technology or similar analytical industry

  • Minimum 6 years of experience conducting business analysis, managing complex projects and/or implementing business/technology strategy

  • Minimum 3 years of experience coordinating resources (e.g., third party vendors, project managers)

Nice to Have

  • MBA preferred

  • Ability to create documents with strong storyline for executive conversations

  • Strong process management capabilities in scenarios which required interaction with senior business leaders and achieving consensus across wide range of objectives

  • Comfort in working under ambiguous, complex, multi-stakeholder and fast-moving situations whilst still driving a project to its successful completion

  • Good understanding of key banking products, platforms, industry dynamics and trends

  • Ability to support several strategic initiatives simultaneously

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $160,000-250,000 (New York/California) depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements that comprise our total compensation package, which includes the following: commission sharing eligibility for select roles, a discretionary bonus, a paid time-off plan, our 401(k) program with company-matching contributions, and our health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance.
