OVERVIEW

The Cook II position is a vital, full-time staff role at LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Napa, CA. Reporting to the Head Chef, the Cook II plays an integral part in kitchen operations, ensuring timely meal service while maintaining standards for food quality and consistent recipe preparation. This position requires strong communication skills, teamwork, and contribution to the overall success of kitchen operations.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices within the food profession

    * Valid CA food handlers permit.

    * Ability to follow directions and willingness to ask clarifying questions

    * Communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.

    * Candidate must be willing to be willing to work hours that include evenings and weekends.

    * Maturity of judgment and behavior

    * Good attention to detail

    * Ability to communicate in written and spoken English required

    * Maintain high standards for work areas and personal hygiene

    * Must comply with dress code requirements

    * Employment is subject to satisfactory background check

    * Valid CA Drivers License

    * Formal culinary training preferred

    * 1 year culinary experience in a commercial setting required.

    REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

    * Basic knife skills.

    * Ability to read, comprehend, execute, and scale recipes

    * Intermediate level of culinary skills.

    * Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.

    * Ability to monitor, evaluate and solve operations problems as they arrive.

    * Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

    * Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

    * Demonstrated ability to show a high level of service responsiveness to customers.

    * Excellent logistical planning and delegating skills.

    * Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.

    * Must have a demonstrated history of improved guest experience with measurable results.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for preparing food by following all recipes with precision consistency in accordance with product standards set by the organization
  • Ensure consistency and superiority in food preparation, quality, and service.

    * Knowledgeable in safe food handling practices and proper operation of kitchen equipment

    * Sets an example for kitchen staff by following all company and department policies and procedures for safety, hygiene and performance

    * Ensure all position checklists are completed daily and accurately.

    * Maintain cleanliness, organization and stocking of coolers and storage areas across all stations.

    * Label, date, and wrap food products in accordance with DOH and Organizations polices and regulations. Follow protocols to document food waste

    * Takes proper care of ranges, ovens, broilers, fryers, griddles, utensils, and other equipment

    * Pro-actively create a welcoming environment for guests and employees alike

    * Adheres to all in house, local, and state hygiene polices and guidelines.


EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE:

  • Complete all assigned prep tasks for each shift to appropriated standard.
  • On time rate: Serve meals on time with all components 95% percent of the time.
  • Use approved recipe 100% of the time
  • Adhere to all documented Standard Operation Procedures 100% of the time
  • Prevent Cross Contamination 100% of the time
  • Complete waste log and document all waste on each shift worked
  • Complete daily recording and cleaning logs/tasks to standard


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Capable of walking over uneven terrain
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
  • Lift up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally team lift/move 50 pounds
  • Manage physical activities such as standing, bending, stooping, stretching, exposure to sun and heat, and varying environmental conditions
  • Safely work with sensitive materials and/or chemicals


  • Ability to independently travel to all LightHouse campuses and throughout the community as needed.
