GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Plant Operations Intern will assist with various projects to identify and implement process improvements at our production facility in Soledad, CA. Projects may include:


  • Raw Material Optimization: identify opportunities to streamline inventory management and reduce waste
  • Finished Goods Forecasting & Schedule Analytics: support production planning by analyzing demand trends and scheduling efficiencies.
  • Packaging Efficiency: assess current packaging utilization and identify cost-saving opportunities.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION

  • Gain a basic understanding of the current process flow
  • Analyze historical data to improve forecasting accuracy for raw material procurement
  • Assist in developing predictive models to minimize shortages and overstock of raw materials
  • Support production planning by analyzing demand trends and scheduling efficiencies
  • Develop reports and dashboards to track production performance against forecasts
  • Conduct research on industry's best practices in forecasting, scheduling, and waste reduction
  • Create and deliver a final presentation to the executive team of Dole Fresh Vegetables.
  • Other duties as assigned


INTERNSHIP DETAILS

  • Summer 2025, 12-week internship
  • 100% onsite (not a remote internship)
  • Pay Rate: $20 -$22 per hour
  • No relocation or housing assistance provided

Required Skills
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills with data analysis and data visualization proficiency
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis
  • Ability to present insights clearly and work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Process Improvement mindset with an interest in optimizing workflows and identifying areas for operational efficiency
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish/English is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Valid driver's license and use of reliable personal transportation


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.
  • Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, lift up to 25 pounds, identify and distinguish colors, and work in a cold environment.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground


WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Full time, 40-hour workweek
  • No overtime expected
  • No travel expected

Required Experience
EDUCATION LEVEL AND FIELDS OF STUDY

  • Fall 2025 rising senior or graduate student obtaining a degree in Ag Business, Food Processing, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Process Improvement, or a related field
