Responsibilities

The Data Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and managing the data engineering team. The roles primary objective will be to design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data solutions that support our growing data needs. The role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and software engineers, to ensure seamless data integration and availability. Expertise in data engineering and team leadership will be essential in establishing a solid foundation for data-driven innovation and excellence.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Team Leadership and Management:
* Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance and support for their professional growth.
* Set performance goals, conduct regular performance evaluations, and ensure the team delivers high-quality solutions.
Data Pipeline Design and Development:
* Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines to efficiently extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources.
* Optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, and reliability.
Data Management:
* Manage databases, data warehouses, and data lakes to ensure data integrity, security, and performance.
* Implement data retention and archival policies to comply with data governance and regulatory requirements.
* Work with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) to leverage data services and infrastructure.
Data Integration and Governance:
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data from different sources and ensure data consistency and integrity.
* Implement data governance practices to maintain data quality and compliance.
Data Architecture and Modeling:
* Create and maintain data models that support business needs and analytical requirements.
* Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools to enhance data engineering capabilities.
Performance Optimization:
* Identify opportunities to improve data processing performance and efficiency.
* Conduct performance tuning and optimization of data pipelines and databases.
Collaboration and Communication:
* Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver data solutions.
* Present technical concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.

Internal Data Warehouse Development & Administration work includes designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining a data warehouse to collate and integrate current/historical data from various sources/systems within an organization.
* Preparing data verification and testing methods for data/applications loaded into the warehouse to ensure compatibility across different sources Implementing procedures for maintenance, monitoring, backup, and recovery for the data warehouse and related systems. Conducting research into new data warehouse applications and determining viability for adoption.
* Requires knowledge of ETL (Extraction, Transformation, and Loading), reporting and database technologies

IT Database Administration work includes designing, configuring, and managing databases to ensure the integrity, security and accessibility of the organization's data including:
* Defining standards for physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration Performing backup and recovery using Database Management Systems Configuring database parameters and defining data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing requirements.
* Designing and implementing approaches to improve database performance, capacity, and scalability
Level: A Manager (M3) manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments.

Responsibilities typically include:
* Policy and strategy implementation for short-term results (1 year or less).
* Problems faced are difficult and often complex.
* Influences others outside of own job area regarding policies, practices and procedures.

SKILLS
* Strong expertise in data engineering concepts, data pipelines, and ETL processes
* Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, Scala, or others commonly used in data engineering
* Experience with cloud platforms and services such as AWS, Aure, or GCP
* In-depth knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling, and database management systems
* Familiarity with big data technologies like Databricks, Spark or similar platforms
* Leadership and management experience, including coaching and developing a team
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders
* Proficiency in working with SQL and NoSQL databases

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
* Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
* Visually able to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
* Ability to sit for extended time periods
* Sufficient manual skill for operation of PC keyboard and other standard office equipment
* Ability to travel, including occasional overnight travel
* Ability to exert minimum amounts of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects

8-10 years of related experience; 3-5 years of leadership/management experience

The minimum salary for this position is:

$110,000
