The Opportunity

The College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty position for an assistant or associate dean of Undergraduate Student Success in STEM. Those who can apply are faculty at the non-tenure earning ranks of instructor, associate instructor, senior instructor, lecturer, associate lecturer, or senior lecturer, or the tenured ranks of associate professor or professor. Those who are non-tenure earning are eligible for assistant dean and those who are tenured are eligible for associate dean. This position is anticipated to begin in August 2025, but an earlier start date is possible.


  • The selected candidate will work alongside the dean of the College of Sciences to strategize and work collaboratively with other members of the college and department leadership to help ensure student success in courses and with degree progression, with a particular focus on lower-level STEM courses.

  • The selected candidate will have experience using data and resources to make informed decisions and advise faculty members (of any rank) toward outcomes that improve student success; they will have experience leading and directing discussions and actions toward shared goals; and they will be accountable and able to work autonomously.

  • The selected candidate will serve as program director of the Integrated Sciences and Technology B.S. degree program.

  • The selected candidate will be expected to teach one course each fall and spring semester (face to face and/or online).

  • The selected candidate will oversee curricular processes for the college, including the college's undergraduate curriculum committee.

Minimum Qualifications:

Those who are non-tenure earning are eligible for Assistant Dean and those who are tenured are eligible for Associate Dean.

The minimum qualifications are:


  • A terminal degree in a College of Sciences discipline or closely related field from an accredited institution.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time teaching experience (not as an adjunct) in higher education.

  • To be eligible for an appointment as an Associate Dean, at the time of appointment the selected candidate must be a tenured faculty at the rank of associate professor or professor in a department/school related to the candidate's area of expertise.


Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have project, professional, or higher education related experience that demonstrates the ability to effectively:


  • Analyze, interpret, and talk about data.

  • Manage and lead faculty of all ranks toward measurable outcomes.

  • Mentor or advise students.

  • Manage and coordinate personnel and office administration.

  • Preference will also be given to candidates who have experience teaching lower-division courses with demonstrated student success.
