Shot Peen Technician - Aerospace Coatings International

Overview of the Position:

This is an entry-level position in our Shot Peen department. Employees in this position will learn tasks to process aviation components specific to Shot Peening and will learn to become a proficient Shot Peen Operator. A Shot Peen Operator Trainee may perform operations in accordance with Military and OEM specifications. Must be able to read blueprints to mask and tape off specific locations per customer instructions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Understand the shot peen process.
  • Match paperwork with part.
  • Use applicable technical data, according to part type, to complete the shot peen process.
  • Ensure the proper shot is used for each part, and change out shot if needed.
  • Perform visual inspections IAW approved data for specific parts.
  • Use test strips to ensure the correct intensity, and check standards for which machine to use.
  • Tape and shot peen correct areas of parts.
  • Properly operate ovens.



Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Must speak, read and write the English language.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and shop personnel.
  • Must be capable of reading blueprints
  • Should have basic computer software and keyboarding skills.

Education / Experience Requirements:



  • Must have H.S. Diploma or GED

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl;
  • Is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Is frequently required to talk or listen
  • Works in moderate noise levels.
  • Ability to stand / walk for entire shift.
  • Lift heavy parts, and other objects up to 125lbs. Always seek help when handling large parts.
  • Operate crane to lift heavy parts overhead.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed/required.
  • No vision requirements.
