Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, this advancement leadership position is responsible for leading, coaching, and mentoring the direct fundraising team and for relationship management leading to the identification, engagement, cultivation, and solicitation of individual major gift prospects.
Salary Range $95,000-$115,000. This is the expected salary range for this position. The actual salary offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, and departmental budget.
Essential Functions

  • Leads, coaches, and manages the fundraising staff responsible for major ($5,000+), planned, and corporate gifts. This includes establishing, monitoring, and evaluating performance goals and outcomes and observing, inspiring, and mentoring staff.
  • Provides strategic direction and individualized support to assigned staff to ensure alignment with University goals and priorities.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gifts ($5,000+) from individuals, corporations, and foundations in collaboration with leadership and prospect research.
  • Cultivates meaningful relationships with donors on an individual basis via all available channels (phone, email, mail, visits in-person and virtually).
  • Collaborates with other fundraisers and appropriate institutional representatives.
  • Stewards principal gift donors and serves as a donor's connection to the University.
  • Writes and presents proposals for major gifts.
  • Works effectively with others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress, timetables, and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions; and respecting the diversity of our work force in actions, words, and deeds.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to work on behalf of the University outside of traditional working hours.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to travel for University business, including overnight stays, approximately 1-2 times per month with frequency subject to change based on need.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in (major) gift fundraising.
  • Effective and motivating interpersonal skills, including relationship building and communication with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong project management skills, demonstrating detail orientation, timeliness, and ability to work under pressure.
  • A track record of successful major gift fundraising.
  • Experience in personnel management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as well as travel overnight for several days at a time, when required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree.
  • Belief in and the ability to represent the Elmhurst University mission and core values.
  • A strong work ethic with an ability to work alone and within a larger team.
  • Ability to collaborate within and across campus departments.
  • Goal-oriented, results-focused.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and familiarity with appropriate fundraising tools.
  • Knowledge of computerized systems of donor recordkeeping and data-tracking of prospects and donors, such as Blackbaud Raiser's Edge.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
