JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Engineering is conducting a search for the Assistant Dean for Academic Support and Global Programs (ADASGP). We are seeking an innovative, knowledgeable, collaborative, and compassionate individual to serve as Assistant Dean leading our team of academic support and global programs professionals who are dedicated to supporting the success of undergraduate engineering and computer science students across all Penn State locations.

External and internal candidates at the level of tenured professor, tenured associate professor, professional-track teaching professor or associate teaching professor are invited to apply for this academic and administrative leadership position.

Responsibilities:

  • The ADASGP has primary responsibility for the college's undergraduate student academic support.

  • Duties include a wide range of academic and administrative roles related to advancing the college's strategic goals for undergraduate education and student success.

  • In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for academic policy implementation; and the use of data to examine, understand and improve undergraduate student experiences.

  • Ideal candidates will have a deep appreciation of the complexities of quality engineering education, will have demonstrated the ability to be effective in teams, will think both strategically and tactically, and be committed to the college's goals of fostering equitable and inclusive environments aimed at enhancing community among faculty, staff, and students.

  • Other essential skills include a broad knowledge of major issues and trends within higher education, a proven record of collaboration across units, a history of working productively with and advocating, for staff, and an enthusiasm for leading and supporting a large team of dedicated and knowledgeable student support professionals.

  • The ideal candidate will also have a record of accomplishment and impact as a faculty member in engineering or a closely related field.

  • The ADASGP position is a dynamic, multifaceted leadership role that supports, enhances, and creates bridges between the experiences of 30 team members who work directly with undergraduate students and the vision and priorities of the College of Engineering and University administration.

The ADASGP provides leadership for academic advising, global engagement, and student records for undergraduate College of Engineering students. The Assistant Dean works closely with campus faculty and staff to ensure appropriate communication and advising information for pre-major students who are intending a COE major and with COE department faculty undergraduate coordinators to provide academic guidance and policy interpretations for support of undergraduate students. This position makes decisions on behalf of the Dean for Entrance to Major, Change of Campus, Transfer Admissions, Reenrollment, Return from Suspension, Course Repeat Requests, and Faculty Senate petitions. The Assistant Dean also oversees the College of Engineering Academic Integrity process and coordinates closely with the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion and the Center for Engineering Outreach and Inclusion to provide comprehensive and coordinated student support for undergraduate students.

The ADASGP will work closely with the Associate Dean for Education, Assistant Dean for Curricular Innovation and Program Assessment; Assistant Dean for Teaching and Learning; the Director of the Office for Digital Learning; and Faculty and staff on a range of issues including student advising and student support. The ADASGP is a member of the Dean's leadership team and will work collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Deans, other Assistant Deans, and Heads of the college's departments and schools. The ADASGP works closely with the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion to promote and enhance collaboration and coordinate comprehensive student support across all facets of the College of Engineering Student Support team. This comprehensive team includes all member of the Office of Academic Support and Global Programs, the Center for Engineering Outreach and Inclusion, Engineering Career Resources & Employer Relations, and representatives from the COE communications team.

The qualification of the successful candidate must merit an appointment as a tenured Associate Professor or Professor, or a Professional Track Faculty Associate Teaching Professor or Teaching Professor in one of the college's academic departments. Term length and rank will be determined by qualifications.
