ABOUT THE ROLE

The Environmental Manager is a member of the SC Johnson headquarters Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) governance team. This role spans across all business units and their respective manufacturing sites, distribution centers, research and development labs and administrative offices where there are SCJ employees

As Manager, you will lead the development and deployment of robust global enterprise-wide standards, tools, and training designed to support safe, healthy, and compliant workplaces. You will oversee and coach to the larger SHE Community of Practice to deliver SC Johnson's safety, health, environmental and sustainability commitments. In addition to your deep environmental technical knowledge and experience, success is equally dependent on you proactively developing and supporting "champions" within the organization to drive day-to-day ownership for SHE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the development and maintenance of SC Johnson's global environmental management standards associated with air emissions, waste, wastewater, and stormwater to effectively manage conditions and behaviors that can cause adverse environmental impacts or potential regulatory non-conformances.

  • Leads the enterprise-wide hazardous and non-hazardous waste transporter and disposable compliance audit process.

  • Serves as a headquarters SHE liaison to the SCJ Global Sustainability team to support enterprise-wide practices associated with the management of carbon, waste, and water impacts to deliver the company's sustainability commitments.

  • Provides environmental regulatory compliance technical support for the Corporate New Ventures, RD&E and Global Facilities organizations.

  • Serves as the company's subject matter expert on environmental remediation matters.

  • Manages standard work processes - including service provider negotiations and contracts - associated with the use of third-party environmental and sustainability service providers and completion of technical reviews for draft reports and partners with stakeholders to ensure timely implementation of applicable third-party recommendations.

  • Verifies the accuracy of environmental and sustainability data in the company's SHE database (e.g., Entropy) and analyzes the data to identify loss trends that can contribute to adverse environmental impacts, regulatory non-compliance, or environmental management system non-conformances.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible SHE technical experience in a global manufacturing environment

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline preferred

  • Experience in the consumer packaged goods, chemical or pharmaceutical industries

  • Experience in driving day-to-day ownership of SHE processes to non-SHE program "champions"

  • Ability to interact with others, establishing open, candid and trusting relationships to create win/win outcomes

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills that permit the clear and concise transfer of information to stakeholders

  • Project management experience to enable prioritization and management of multiple projects to completion

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • This position is located at our Racine Headquarters offices

  • Remote work available once a week for eligible employees

  • Up to 25% domestic and international travel may be required

  • This position is eligible for domestic relocation
