To help guide the collaborative effort, we are in search of a Software Engineer III to join our team. Overview: At Northwestern Mutual, the Planning Solutions team is on a mission to transform how Financial Advisors connect with clients through innovative technology. As part of the Factfinder team, you'll be at the heart of these efforts, building a critical application that sets the tone for an advisor's relationship with their clients. Factfinder is used during live, first-call conversations to gather key client data, helping advisors create tailored financial recommendations in real time. It's a tool that not only drives efficiency but plays a crucial role in shaping a client's decision to trust Northwestern Mutual and their advisor. When Factfinder performs well, it ensures advisors can deliver a seamless and impactful experience during these pivotal moments. We innovate with state-of-the-art technologies, including microservices and micro-frontend architectures, leveraging JavaScript, Typescript, React, Node, Java, and Kotlin, all hosted on AWS with Kubernetes orchestrating our scalable infrastructure. As a T3 engineer, you'll take on independence and ownership of technical features, have the chance to collaborate on architectural decisions, and mentor junior engineers. You're Excited About This Opportunity Because You Will... Deliver high-quality features and enhancements to the Factfinder application. Collaborate with teammates and product managers to design, build, and maintain intuitive solutions. Actively participate in code reviews to improve code quality and share knowledge. Troubleshoot complex issues and improve application performnce and reliability. Mentor entry-level and Junior engineers, sharing your expertise and insights. Work with modern technologies like React, JavaScript/TypeScript, Kotlin, Java, and AWS. Gain exposure to modern architectures and scaling strategies We're Excited About You Because You Have... 3+ years of professional experience in software development. A strong understanding of web development, leveraging technologies like Javascript, React, HTML, and CSS. Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Java, or Kotlin). Experience using testing frameworks A collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills Experience developing backend APIs (Node, Java, Kotlin, or other relevant languages) Experience with version control using Git Knowledge of Unit testing practices Strong debugging and problem-solving skills A desire to continue growing your skills and learning new technologies Nice To Haves Exposure to system monitoring Exposure to analyzing and improving efficiency, scalability, and stability of various systems Experience working with databases (e.g. SQL, Postgres, Mongo) Experience building cloud-native applications in AWS or other cloud providers Benefits: Tuition reimbursement, commuter plans, and paid time off Highly competitive compensation that include base salary plus bonus Medical/Dental/Vision plans, 401(k), pension program #LI-Hybrid Compensation Range: Pay Range - Start: $92,750.00 Pay Range - End: $172,250.00 Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
