The Position
The Translational Medicine (TM) department at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow (Bioinformatics) to lead analysis of complex biological datasets related to Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis. Our department provides translational science expertise to inform the clinical development of novel personalized therapeutics, and our biomarker teams investigate the molecular pathways of disease and to establish the mechanism of action of our therapeutics. The successful candidate will work with our team to analyze multi-level biomarker data generated from pre-clinical experiments, clinical trials, and/or real-world clinical studies. This work will advance understanding of disease pathobiology, clinical heterogeneity, and generate insights that advance personalized healthcare by identifying "the right drug for the right patient at the right dose". The candidate will also work with, and be co-mentored by, exceptional scientists in Human Genetics and Computational Sciences within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED). The Opportunity: The successful candidate will join our dynamic team and lead computational analysis in one or more projects with high-dimensional data to facilitate translational discovery in multiple sclerosis (MS). The candidate will support our translational pathway discovery strategy, leading data analysis for internal studies and external collaborations relating to understanding disease heterogeneity through genetics, transcriptomics, imaging, and other biomarker data across human data sets. Success in these responsibilities requires a thorough understanding of neuroimmunology biology, creativity and attention to detail, and experience in integrating biomarkers into clinical trials. Candidates with experience in single-cell RNA sequencing, single-cell ATAC sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, whole-genome sequencing, functional screens, bioinformatics, and/or data algorithms including machine learning will be given preference. A successful candidate will work with interdisciplinary teams including discovery research, biomarker, clinical, biostatistics, and bioinformatics scientists, and will carry out data analysis and integration across various domains. Regular publication of scientific or methodological papers is an important component of this position. Success critically depends on an ability to effectively present complex techniques and results in a clear and concise manner to a diverse audience of scientists. Who You Are:
