THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Income Maintenance (OIM) is seeking a Clerical Supervisor to lead a team of dedicated clerical staff at the Berks County Assistance Office (CAO). Your work in this position will ensure that services are provided accurately and efficiently to the residents of Berks County. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for planning and assigning tasks to a team of clerical staff. You will train employees on practices and procedures utilized by the CAO, including how to use office equipment and how to provide excellent customer service. Additionally, you will communicate policies and procedures to staff, ensuring they understand and correctly implement DHS guidelines locally. Your duties will include reviewing documents processed by your team to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness. As a supervisor, you will be responsible for monitoring attendance records and leave requests, as well as holding unit meetings and individual conferences with staff.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2; or
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Berks County. If no eligible candidates who live within Berks County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
